Audible book crazy

Yep. I am really into podcasts too. I like getting information all the time and audio works well in a lot of cases.

 

Two separate statements Pete. Yes in response to your question at the end of post one. I listen to podcasts in addition to audio books. After rereading I realise that didn't come out how I intended it.

I have the entire Jeeves and Wooster set, they made me fall in love with the audio format. They were my gateway drug.

 

I have also thoroughly enjoyed radio dramas, like Hitchhikers Guide and Day of the Triffids.

 

Love books on tape...er phone. There are plenty of free (although older public domain) books out there. I listened to ( after reading it), Shackletons "South" book of his failed Antarctic exploration. Truly amazing story.

 

You might get a kick out of another public domain one. "Backwoods of Canada" by Catherine Parr Trail. It's this woman's letters she wrote home when she and her husband moved from the UK to Canada in the early 1800's. Overall it's pretty good. Some of her letters ramble on a bit, but it really shows what it was like to move in the north woods back in those days.

What do you guys listen to these on? CD or a download like on the ipad or something? I havent had much time to read lately and Im thinking this might be a good way to catch up on "reading".

 

I dowload to my phone..Samsung S3.

 

Can you move it to another device say the computer or a tablet or another phone or is it stuck on the device that you download it too? Also are there gift cards for these things Im thinking about putting a few on my Christmas list.

 

I only download free books and radio shows. The free books are older public domain books though. Almost all old time radio shows are free, so I really don't have any experience in buying them.

The files that I download are standard mpeg so I can move them, but file manipulation can be kind of a hassle so I usually download them on each device I use.

 

It's easiest to download on PC if you are moving them to a device that isn't able to download them itself -- most MP3 players for instance. I listen to a lot of them in my car, the stereo in there has an SD card.

 

My wife is hooked on audio books. She gets them from the local library and listens to them on her commute to work (30 mins one way). Just takes them out one at a time. When we vacation out of the country she grabs a couple, I rip them, and put them on her phone. Your local library is a fantastic source for this format.

 

Thanks guys I found an app for audible.com on my phone and downloaded a couple books this should be better than listening to the junk on the radio.
