Watching our local news here in Maine... they just did a great story about this guy. Wow. 2 draft horses out there logging in the winter. He's from the northwest area of Wisconsin. Any of you guys know or hear about him? He used to run the family logging biz... big mech operation, with all of the headaches. His brother died and took it's toll on his Dad... then the economy downturn took the rest and he lost everything. He had one draft horse and told his wife he was going back to work... says he's much happier now and loves working with the horses. Hope you get a chance to see this story. Looked like a NBC affiliate. I'll be looking for a video of the story. I did find this short GoPro vid of him and the horses... but the news story was much better.

Thanks for that info BH. That is the same story that he's posted on the FB site. It's worth going and seeing for sure. I tried, but couldn't copy and paste it here.

If more people had Mr. Johnson's attitude, this country would be a whole lot better off.

Did I enjoy the first 50 years of my life in regard to what we had and how society worked?.......You bet I did. Am I enjoying how it works now since 2000....................Not so much...........There are a lot of things I wish I could hit the "Restore" button on. Sorry, I don't "buy into" that the world is a better place these days............

"Sorry, I don't "buy into" that the world is a better place these days" ... that's cause, no matter how you measure it, it's not. Prolly not a coincidence that the internet has developed over those last 15 years too. Waaaaay too many young people being taught they don't need to know anything... just how to find it on the net... :picard: Scary chit right there.

There is no values any more no ethic. This place right here lifts me. I know that sounds stupid but guys here aren't afraid to get out there and provide for their families they enjoy a good days work and enjoy the rewards of their labor and knowing that a percentage isn't taken away to give to those who won't.

Albeit im talking about firewood but in reality if one is willing to work this hard to cut just firewood then in my book they more than likely have values and ethics and apply that to other parts of their lives

I can say this much if any one of you needed firewood and was down and out I wouldn't hesitate to give you any that I had because without ever even meeting a one of you I think you share the same ethic as I do. All this from just a firewood forum but I believe I am right.

In a society where it's much easier to turn up the thermostat there are those who still are willing to do it the hard way. I'm glad im one of them

Hehehe... you hit it on the head Woodrat! And, just for the record, there's not one word, as you said, that sounds stupid to me. The FHC forum has drawn like minded folks consistently. Scott and the mods had a great idea and work hard to keep it a great idea. I sure am glad I found this place too.
