To try to burn a few calories I worked on the stacks for couple hours. Found some honeysuckle at the tree dump today, bucked it and stacked it...no splitting required as most was 3" -4" diameter stuff. Then I split and stacked the remaining mulberry and oak that I had. About a face cord worth including some honey locust and birch for 15/16.
Nice work schlot! I need more calorie burning exercise too! Hopefully I can get two days of working in the woods this week as well.
Nice wood stack. Mulberry makes a great addition to any wood pile! As much bush honeysuckle we have in this area, I have never burned it. One of these days, I plan on getting some. Do you use it mainly for kindling?
So, let me get this straight. You have a "tree dump"? Is this where people take their unwanted trees and just dump them? Then you and others Hoarders pick it up and take it home and have free wood? I like, REALLY?! People actually have a hard time finding someone to take their wood? We don't have anything like that around my part of the world. Wish we did!
I haven't used any yet but I know they are a very dense wood. I plan on throwing them in throughout the day rather then over night burns.
Yes, a very small town where my mother lives has a tree dump where they dont care if you cut up and take from it. The city I live in doesn't allow that for insurance reasons. This part of Iowa doesn't have a huge amount of wooded area do to the beans and corns we grow. That combined with the availability of cheap natural gas makes burning wood more of a novelty rather than a necessity, which means getting rid of wood more of a nuisance to most people.
Yup. Next time spell something out in the pile. Like Firewoodhoardersclub. That should be easy enough.
