I paid the stupid tax yesterday Last weekend I decided I was going to clean the saws up real good. I was bored and couldn't cut figured I would have them all ready to go when weather breaks Like a dumb arse not thinking or paying atten I went to take of flywheel and used a screw driver to hold it in place while I loosened the nut and broke off a fin. The sad part was I knew better but just was not thinking and did it The stupid tax cost me $107 yesterday for oem flywheel for a ms 290 Im going to hang the old one above the bench as a reminder to pay attention next time. On a positive note the saws are nice and clean looking great
Hang it from a piece of string right in front of the bench so you bump your head on it once on a while. Dont beat yourself up brother. it happens. we've all done something stupid we wish we could have a redo on.
Not to add insult to injury but you can buy new from china for $15 shipped on ebay. Or about 30 for a used oem flywheel.
Ouch. My last stupid tax payment was a flywheel too - knew I didn't torque the flywheel to spec on a 262xp, but thought it was fine and just had to start the saw.........sheared key in two pulls and, of course, key was cast in flywheel...luckily found a used flywheel and was back in business for about $40, but I was still pizzed at myself - it always sucks when you know better and still do something stupid! Cheers!
My stupid tax was backing my car against my truck this winter. Whoda thunk that a white pickup against white snow, in the dark, would go unnoticed.
Do you still have the flywheel with the sheared key? I may be able to broach a key seat in it at work.
I have a Husky 51 that I bought used years ago. Has a broken fin on the fly wheel. Still running it that way. Now if I wanted to ride it into outer space I would worry about it but....
Yesterday I was pressing a bearing into a used but minty case half and put a good crack in it. It's junk now. I tried a few times to do it with a heat gun but failed and got impatient. Mag + impatience = not a good combo!
Instead of moving my truck the other day I decided it was a good idea to slide into it with the tractor bucket. It might be 8' if that between my truck and the retaining wall and the ground was all ice. Would have had to move all the vehicles.
this was my stipid tax for the weekend . I'm sure the week will bring one or 2 more, on a side note I was much closer to the wood
That pic reminds me of the time I stopped to help 2 guys that flipped their truck. I pulled on the opposite side of the road in tall grass. Only problem was there was a ditch hidden by the tall grass. Got the truck off the guy, made sure he was ok and than got my jeep off the side of the road. I was worried just a tractor trailer coming by at a good clip would give it enough rock to flip it.
