Well I finally got a chance yesterday to swap out the buck stove in my new house for my Isle Royale I had installed in my old place! I rented a piano dolly like Brain K recommended and it worked perfectly!! Moving not just one but 2 480lb monsters in one day wasn't so bad! :D

Here are some of the pics of the swap

First pics are how we got the Buck 26 out of the new place and over to the old place (my brother and I did all the moving... With the exception of a couple drunk neighbors who helped get my IR into the new place :drunk:)

Here are the pics of hooking up the Buck at the old place. It is all hooked up and ready to burn.

Nothing like stove juggling for a good bit of exercise! The old Buck still looks great.

And here are the pics after the OSU/Michigan game was over and the neighbors could help me get the IR into the new house :D

How does it burn when compared to the Buck?

Looks great. I like the chimney, very clean looking install.

I've noticed already just in the fire last night and this morning that there is not as much draft in the new house compared to the old. The IR really burns a lot better here!! I don't think I will have to worry about anymore over drafting issues. That's surprising considering the new place has a taller chimney... Guess the two 90's really slow it down. I still installed a damper but probably will only need it for rare occasions when maybe it's really cold or if I leave the air open too long. Overall I'm loving the new setup and how the stove is burning here!! Much more controllable now!!

    Thanks BBar!
I burned the buck for about 4 days here until I swapped them out and I have to say it didn't put out half the heat as my IR does!! I could get the Buck up to 500F STT and it just didn't pump the heat in. My IR at 400F STT feels like it's putting out twice as much heat and with half the wood! I loaded the Buck up with 6 pieces of 6" splits a few times and it just wasn't doing it. Last night I put 3 splits in the IR and got more heat out of it already! They are pretty much the same size stove too!

I was actually surprised I got both stoves swapped and installed all in one day! :smoke:

I really want to get back to the old place before it sells and try I fire there just to see how the old Buck burns in its new home. It should burn a lot better and not heat you out of the smaller room there.

I've noticed with my IR in the new home now I can keep it right at 400-450F STT and the flu stays right at 400F probe temp the entire time. In the old house my flue temp was always 100-200F hotter than my STT was. I'm finally getting more heat into the room than I am out the stack!!

    Real nice job.
I love that you didn't waste any time getting a fire going.
Just what I would have done.

I was determined to light a fire in my IR last night... Even if it was 12:30 at night when I finally got it hooked up :D

Yeah, at that point, it wouldn't matter to me either.

So many debates over whether firebox size determines heat output. Interesting to hear your observations with your similarly sized stoves.

The old Buck Model 26 is about a half a cu ft smaller. The Bucks, solid stoves they seem to be, always seemed to never have impressive burn times. Wonder if some of it is that it is throwing a lot of heat up the pipe like the Hearthstones can do. I'd try a damper on it and see if you can change some results.
