A beautiful day here. Sunny and it got to 20 degrees! I took my wife to the store for a few things. This is a little store in a 4 corner spot. Store on one side and bar on other. The store was really doing some big business. I've never seen it that full! Good for them. But while sitting there waiting, I saw 4 trucks loaded to the hilt with firewood. One stopped at the bar. He also was pulling a trailer. Saw a couple others as we passed some houses. Yes, it much have been a good day to cut firewood. I'm betting all of it is to finish out this year and none for next year. Tis okay. I smile and then think about all the wood we have stacked and ready to burn.
Amazing what you see on a short trip to the store. And with what you saw immediately felt peace of mind knowing your not worried about having enough. The weather should break soon enough, March is my go to month for processing what Ive used this season. I think it will be April by the time I see the ground again
The ant and the grasshopper story comes to mind. They predict temps in the upper 20's here today - going to feel downright tropical but we are still loading the stove with white oak.
Yes...Yes...Yes it was a great day to be out cutting wood. Fairly calm winds frozen ground I got that nice load of Honey Locust out of that pond, finally. But back to your point its nice knowing that you can sit back and enjoy the fire and not have to worry about getting your weekly load at this time of the year.
Around here people load pickup trucks with firewood park em close to the road with wood for sale signs on them anywhere from $60-$100 for the load some have been there since Dec now they have all disappeared in the last week. Funny part is most of this wood was cut last fall so it's no where near dry enough to burn but if you're out I guess you don't have much choice.
On the weather. Earlier today I was looking back in the journal at 2011. It was cold for the most part until May and even then, we had to have a few fires at night or early morning. There also was quite a bit of snow and, of course, a lot of rain too. I think I remember seeing that I removed the snow blade in early April that year. It is still on now but only used a couple times this winter. Might have to use it Tuesday or Wednesday.
