Hmmmm, after some thought. Let's see, so they changed the stove to a 4" air intake and all the sudden they can run at 6. This stove has a 3" intake and occasionally has a problem even on 4. I'm thinking they realized they screwed up after they had some problems and re-designed em with 4" to get enough airflow to run well at higher heat settings.

I wonder if this is like the Whitfield Traditions of way back when. The store I worked for at the time sold them and they were supposed to be the biggest baddest newest thing on the market. Well, they were junk. I think we swapped out at least 15-20 replacement stoves over a years time, and many of them got pulled and replaced with Quadrafires. Stove manufacturers don't ALWAYS make sure their stuff is good to go before they put them on the market. I've seen it with other products as well.

    Makes a guy wonder...

Try sticking a small mirror behind the exhaust fan and take a picture. We can read upside down if we have to. If in need of heat, try running in idle or just above for the time being after you do a thorough clean. Sorry to hear on the misfortunes and blessed with people coming to your rescue.

I would have to say that the change to 4" took the blockage caused by the fan in the intake out of the equation but that is just me. A P68 functions just fine at high fire with a 3" intake. My unit functions just fine with a 2" intake. A XXV has issues with a 2" intake.

Aww thanks everybody!! Going to take a few more pics, re-assemble the stove and turn it on low. Have space heaters out here, and husband has the woodstove rockin', on the other end of the house, we will stay warm :)

Agreed, almost makes you wonder if you could remove the fan, and make some type of piece to fill the connection, and the thing would run fine? By my eye and the terrible diagram and the pics of the part on parts supply sites, it looks like a dinky computer fan. I doubt it moves much air anyways.

It should be able to match the exhaust fan and some of those fans haul butt in the airflow department.

And? The stove is clean, she's running it how they told her to and it STILL doesn't work? Been a month since a sweep. The stove is less than a year old.

Yes, and credit is due to you fine sir. They didn't change it because they were bored, they changed it because it didn't work.

There has to be a high altitude adaption for this unit as well since in this case it will need 33% more air flow to function correctly at all heat ranges and I haven't found an air adjustment yet not that I have looked at the controls yet either.

    Just lining ducks up.

Gotcha, the thing is. I've installed stoves from a lot of manufacturers here where I live at 8000ft and even higher. Quadrafire being one that has no air adjustment. The best they give is you can alter the dial on the control box (newer control boxes) to run at 10% more or significantly less but that's the fuel rate, and you have the fuel restriction plate in the hopper. With a clean stove, a clean flue and good gaskets.... I'm pretty baffled.

And when adjusting the flame height you bring the fuel feed into line with what ever air you get. That is if you read the manual.

My last one ton cleaning was Jan 16, it's really not that dirty and the flue has been swept. I mis-read ivanhoe post earlier and used the mirror for the intake on OAK instead. If it helps anyone here it is. Small intake fan removed for pics (it was shown in an earlier pic). I could not get down there, not adept with a mirror for photos so took some shots in the dark (lol pun intended! as it was dark, I used the flash on my camera). You can see the finger prints on the ash where I tried to find a flapper, it looks like from the second photo it's fixed, welded. DSCF1502.JPG DSCF1503.JPG

It doesn't need to be packed full to reduce air flow enough to cause pile ups. How many bags have gone through since that last complete cleaning?
