    Welcome to the forum Crodog.

That is indeed a beautiful old stove. But it sounds like it is a wood eater for sure. Just to give you a hint what can happen when one upgrades to one of the new stoves. In 2007 we bought a Woodstock Fireview. Before that, we averaged around 6 cord of wood per year. The most I remember using was 7 1/2 cord. We used to have to close off part of the house and even then, when it got really cold in January and February, we were never comfortable. Fast forward to the Fireview. We are now into our 8th season and it appears this year we'll burn 3 cord, which is about our average.

Now to really put that into perspective, consider that we used to close off part of the house. We no longer do that. We used to plug in a ceramic heater in the bathroom before showering else we'd be shivering. We no longer do that. We uses to try to get heat to the rear of the house but were not very successful. While we were never comfortable in January and February, we are now and we keep our home around 80 degrees. Usually in the morning when we get up the house is still around 76. We love it.

So we now burn about half the amount of wood we used to and we have a happy and warm home.

That is a good post Sav, shows how much differences there is in stoves used in the same house by the same people and over a long time frame.

I have a Jotul rock land that unfortunately is a hair too big for my fireplace. Hoping to be able to do a few modifications to either the stove or the firebox and get it to fit, then install a liner but that's a project for warmer days.
