Husqvarna 545 opinions wanted

    My first new saw is a 2252, the red and black version of the 545. Auto Tune is fun to run and listen to as it tunes itself in. Starting has not been a problem. Nothing but smiles from my buddies that have tried it too.
    I think you'll like it.

    I would love a 545 but you may want to look at the Husky 555 also. The extra cc's in the bigger diameter stuff is awesome and it has become my go to firewood saw!

    I am on my 2nd 562XPG (traded 1st for a G model) and have a 550XPG. At first I really liked them but am changing my mind quickly. The old school stuff is pretty hard to beat. (346XP, 357XP and any of the 2XX series)

    Reasons:

    Huge amount of dirt getting past the filter.

    It's anybodies guess on how they will re-start.

    A fair # are coming back to the saw shop with bearing failures. Between the dirt and plastic bearing cages, there are issues.

    A little bit of grease will fix the dust getting in around the filter connections. Plastic bearing cages are a non issue. A lot of stihls, huskies, dolmars, and others use them all the time. The plastic is less damaging if they come apart.

    Thanks for the tip! I will be doing this to my 555 as soon as I get home.

    To the OP: I highly recommend porting either the 545 or the 555 after it makes a difference.

    Well been there done that. Here is the grease trick that was used on the 562XPG in the first pic.

    The debris on the Q tip came out of the filter.

    Since they were "G" models they came with the white nylon. I attributed this to the rather course mesh so I switched them to the flocked type. If anything the matter is worse. I have the white nylon on the 372XPG and nothing gets through that filter. As a matter of fact all of my saws never have anything in the intake horn except the 5XX series. This is a serious matter Husky needs to address. I believe an O ring is needed to tighten up the fit. There is roughly 2.5 times the surface area in the perimeter of the intake horn compared to other saws.

    Felt or flocked. I wish there was a max flow kit for huskies. Nothing gets through those.

    Look at all that crud cacked to the carb. Maybe thats a maintanence issue as well... Or lack there of ! I clean my saws after each cutting session. Its a little much i know... But my stuff never looks like that :)

    I have saws with 20 times the # of hours that the two auto tunes have. None have ever had debris get past the filter. There is a serious design problem with the seal between the filter and intake horn. Don't tell me this is a maintenance issue.

    My saws get regular maintenance and ALWAYS have sharp chains. Don't tell somebody with a Silvey grinder that they don't know how to sharpen chain. BTW I probably cut more wood than others on this site.

    Easy fella ! Dont make it a pizzin match on who has cut more wood. Because thats all speculation and a just plain stupid thing to say. This computer bs where a guy says hes the best and Joe logger.. Its... Its...STUPID ! You could be talkin to a guy right now that has cut a 1,000 cord a year for 20 year... Or never split any.
    I was just saying that a guy who maintains his saw regular..... Would have caught this issue before a pound of gunk made its way into the carb ! It certainly didnt happen overnight. Ive bought saws that looked like that around the carb... And when i took the recoil off... The whole air injection system was clogged...along with some of the cylinder fins. This all effects cooling.... And filtered air to the carb as you know.
    Thats why i try to blow out with compressed air all the time ! If i was a logger and making all my time count... I may not have time to go to those lengths as often.

    Or just maintain your saw correctly... And you can bypass the messy grease ;)

    I still have a 357XP that I need to sell one of these days...... I keep thinking about it but it is so happy sitting on my shelf smiling at me :D I think I may be sick or sumthin like that :hair:

    Lol !! I seriously cut for a day or two... Then do a good cleaning and check up. In that amount of time with the Air Injection... Theres maybe only a chip or two in the air filter area ! Dont worry too bad about it. I dont lose any sleep... About that anyway lol :)
