Well I am picking up the new wood hauler parts truck this week. My 86 k1500 needs some work and this is the same truck dual tanks plow and all! Got it for $850 with a new 350, plow, 400 turbo and 3/4 suspension.

The blue truck is for parts and the red is my baby! 20150218_124613.jpeg FB_IMG_14215087276705277.jpg

    Pete, RUN!
You stole that. The plow alone is probably worth what you paid for the whole thing. Tires look to be in great shape, and it's got a new motor too?
    What's gettin' swapped?

My local mechanic had a small floor lift until recently, when he put in a nice lift like that one.
    He's ecstatic.
Now, if he could just raise the roof a couple more feet........

I am keeping the plow, steering column, various body panels, door mirrors, window slides, headlight brackets, 3/4 leafs, front drive shaft, all 700 r4 mounting hardware and parts, all 400 turbo mounting hardware and parts ( installing in mine ) for backup and replacement parts on my truck the bed looks to be in better shape than mine so that will get fixed up too. The axle assembles, engine, and T case are getting sold. Theres probably more too….:hair::hair::dex::dex::dex:

How well have you been making out with the 700 r4? I had that in my 86 GMC 1/2 ton too and I plowed with it.

My opinion 700 r4 ( gone through two already ) are junk!! I am taking all the 400 Turbo parts and converting it to that setup. Much stronger transmission. I havnt had a plow on my wood hauler yet but its going to get the one off the parts truck. My last plow truck was a 1985 s10 super sport with a 305 and man that thing moved snow… It also bent the frame:whistle:

My wood hauler is the red and grey truck it is in far better shape than it looks. Mechanically its pretty much restored ( although I blew the rear diff yesterday. :( ) Thats getting a rebuild! It has a new 350 crate engine installed last winter, new suspension all the way around, repacked new lockouts, new drive train ( except rear diff ) New 400 turbo as of Friday, newly installed used truck cap, New radiator, new starter, new alternator, new brakes o heck you get the point I have been restoring it for the last 2 years or so. Its my baby and I am getting close to doing body work now… I am going to have shelving in my shed soon to store all the compatible parts off the blue / grey truck for mine too. I basically just bought a parts store.

I agree in the 700r4. They work pretty good in light weight rock buggies. Putting it in any kind of hard use truck is not good. The 4l80e seems to have a pretty strong following, essentially a TH 400 with an over drive. You would need a stand alone controller though.

I have been known to hold my nose and drive a slushbox. I much prefer a clutch.

I know an old boy, he's a big-un, in his old straight truck, the lap belt wouldn't extend far enough for him to use it, so he used two small bunggy cords to extend the belt... only Danny.... and knowing that old cuss even if he did get pulled over by the DOT, he would talk his way out of it.

I drove a clutch pickup for many years, it towed better than any auto trans...much more control.
Bad part, I hated sitting in traffic with a clutch trans, wore out my poor left leg.
