My brother saw the gas compnay messing around outside our house, it seems they left a note that we need a new gas meter. This has happened every year since we started burning wood. We are going to call them (again) after work. Any talking point anyone can think of? I know they had to step over or around the pile of wood I brought home yesterday before they got to the meter, man they must be dumb!
They are just dumb. I'll never forget the first winter we went to Arizona. We notified all that needed it including the electric company. They really thanked me for the advance notice. However, come February we got a notice they would have to do some checking and probably need to change the meter because no electric use had been noted. Right.... The following year we did the same thing. They did too.
They'll catch on eventually.....or not. I wouldn't even call. Or you could call and tell them not to change it because it took you a day to get it set right.
My gas bill was $12.xx for last month. Just got this months yesterday; it's $25.xx, but it's an estimated usage bill. March will be an "actual" bill in the teens probably. I've never gotten any flak about my bills since I started burning; nor have I seen any meter readers tapping on my meter to make sure it's reading correctly. This is my 3rd year burning now.
I had the same call from our gas company beginning of last week I think it was. They were all set to have someone come out and change the meter. I should've let them (theres about 5 feet of snow there). I told them to look back over the last 8 years of gas usage and they should also see that the meter had been changed out 2-3 times already. And remember, put a note in your records showing homeowner burns wood and doesn't use gas at all during the winter. Think that'll help? It hasn't ever helped here!!!!
Called and talked to them, the service men were called by the meter reader after our usage, or lack thereof, was noted. No one checked the file until after the request for a new meter was put in. They realised it before we called so it was a short conversation.
Same story for me as MightyWhitey , the only gas we really use is for hot water and occasionally the furnace will come on overnight when it's cold and windy. Our gas bills haven't passed $38 in the last couple years. They (gas co) never bugged me about it
Makes you wonder, they have so little trust in their meters, how many meters are over charging customers?
every dern one of 'em, as far as I'm concerned! I have an old buddy back home who swapped meters for the local coop. The SOP is - meter reader sees little or no consumption, notifies manager, who orders meter change. Old meter gets bench tested, passes test, goes back into spare stock. Next!
They did my meter a while back. The guy who did it told me stories of finding bypassed ones. Like turning off the supply side valve, disconnecting the meter, and then having gas come rushing out the house side. A widow whose deceased husband likely did it and even in multi tenant buildings/business with poeple poaching off their neighbors line.
Pot growers do the same with electrical meters. They rent a house with underground utilities. Dig down and tap into the live lines and have free electricity to power their grow lights. And no gets suspicious when they see a residential meter spinning out of control.
Well, they didn't give up. The claim that every year they are assigned meters that are of a certain age, they come up in some sort of lottery and supposedly ours was picked. Seems fishy when they have tried to change it each of the last two years. Anyway, I forgot the guy was coming and has ammo boxes sitting on the front step as I had just painted my name across the top. Guy was very polite and asked permission a few times and said he would be out of my hair as soon as possible. I built the fire up to Dennis levels and got the house over 80 since I knew he would have to come in to relight the pilot on the furnace. Then I sat down at the dining room table and started cleaning guns
