Hey guys I need some ideas... I got a 50 h.p. Kubota with a loader on front and 7 foot meteor snowblower on back. Got a quarter mile drive would like a way to put a sander on front. The bucket is not quick release yet but it will be saw some pallet storage ideas so need those and a set of forks too. Lookin for either make or buy sander for front. So blower can stay on. Right now sanding with 5 gallon buckets and throwing by hand. Which is fun because it's probably 10% grade and only sand it's icy...

I 2nd the use of the tailgate spreader. Weld a reciever hitch onto the bucket to make installing easier. Then u can still use the bucket while hauling the spreader around. Depending on how long your driveway is, an ATV seed/fertilizer spreader could work for less $
I've got some tailgate spreader experience so I'll give my 2 cents. Short version. ..it won't work. They are designed for dry material only. Pellet ice melt or bagged rock salt will flow fine. Even damp salt bridges up. Sand will not flow properly...even with a vibrator kit. Put your $ into building a small covered bin . Maffia blocks or posts and lumber. For your sand/salt. Make a clamp/pin on gate for your bucket out of a 2x12" or steel if you have it. Scoop up your salt/sand and clamp/pin on your hillbillyed gate and spread away using your bucket tilt just like the state dump trucks do. If your sand in the bin freezes up scoop into it ,, dump,, then back drag it to break it up. I use a sand and 1B stone mix. I think the stones keep the sand from freezing into big clumps.
Thanks for that my brother has a plow company and all sanders seem to not work with clumps I will check out that one I was wondering if one off PTO would work better or should I look for a small manure spreader?
I've used a rotary fertilizer spreader on nasty sheet ice and yeah you have to keep the sand dry. I keep a couple buckets in the garage for hand throwing in spots ( gravel drive gets iced over in Winters like this, nice for bucket plowing actually ) Also a bag or two of sand. Playground sand works and is cheaper than pool filter sand. A (Curtis Fast Cast 500 ) 3 point can often be modded for truck bed /bucket/ front forks.
Thanks billb, yeah the western is 3k., I just can't see paying that I am a homeowner not using it too make money. 500 more reasonable but in north east 80 to 90 humidity is common in summer when the ice cube melts (lake champlain). So everything clumps. I am wondering about a used manure spreader would work. I usually get sand from town sand shed it's free and they said I could. Assuming a 5 gallon bucket weigh 50 lbs I got 2.5 ton sand on drive this year. Drive is quarter mile uphill both ways. I don't mind workin for it but trying to make easier. I don't have a Truck so I load 11, 5 gallon buckets in hatch back old saab and carry and throw by hand. In few years lookin at hip/knee replacements and still trying to be independent and do it myself.
OK rotti man what is it, where did ya get it I got a 25 hp cub cadet with rear pto that might run it more info please.. oh love rotti had 2 biggest babies ever... just don't mess with mama or the kids. Mine were rescues pure bred german lines we had ice storm breeders lost power (no woodstove) gave away pups to keep then warm. Uncle took 12 so all cousins that wanted pup got one. Still miss them passed 6 years ago at 13
It is a Befco ag spreader. Got it through one of the local farm equipment dealers. Only mods I did was to fabricate some diverter shields to keep the sand/salt mix off the back of the tractor and made a hinged lid to keep the snow and crap out of it. I keep it filled as it makes a great counter weight for the loader as well. I have it parked in my heated garage all winter. This tractor is a 25 h.p. as well. The spreader is the smallest of the three sizes they offer. PTO driven and does a 1st class job on standard sand/salt mix
