Temp was cold last night. About 10, in the twenties now. Wood Gun is going through some wood when it starts getting this cold at night. I think I'll burn some Ash. :D

I've been burning Ash exclusively since the start of the season. When the highs are consistently under 40, I start looking to switch to Oak. :D

I burn Ash almost exclusively the whole season! LOL just what is the most on my land. And for sale. I also burn a little White Pine and whatever I can get a bargain on

A mix of beech, ash and I think elm. The big pieces are beech then I tossed in some little end chunks of ash and beech for extra heat tonight. It is bone chilling outside right now at 18F with a decent wind too. In a month I'll think this was summer.

Wow. Theses temps sure are cold for this time of year. Colder than what has been usual anyway.

The forecast was for a low of 28. I went out and got a few more small splits because the stove had burnt down a little more than expected. It felt colder than 28 and yep it is 20. It may not be cold compared to some but I am trying to heat something 200 years old.

We hit - 5 this morning, I had the Liberty loaded with Sugar Maple last night, I then went to the Yankee Pellet Stove (turned it on auto) set the temp to 77.

The house was 68 this morning with a good bed of coals in the Liberty, the pellet stove used about 1/2 a bag.

    Agreed.
We were supposed to have a low of about 20, but it was 7 when I got off work.

Sometimes I wonder how you guys manage up north - thicker walls would help down here. 2x4 exterior construction down here.
Screwed myself a bit yesterday and tried to burn a stack of junk mail, stove was kicking on a bed of hot pine. Temp inside 74 but when I went to load some 3yr oak and 4yr hickory:drool: before bed last night the stove just died - wouldn't light off at all. Dropped to 21 this morning
Checked outside and had smoke drafting, had to pull a few pieces of wood out rattle some coals forward and get bit of pine going in front. Was as if the paper ashes were stopping heat transfer from coals to new wood.

Laid down in bed and waited till I saw light flickering in the hall, loaded some oak on top and chocked it down a bit. Same struggles getting going this morning - more GF loading before I got of the shower, really wanted to clean out the box. Clean out this evening(house was at 65 - way below standards) found unburnt bits of paper.

Moral of the story: Don't burn your junkmail prior to going to bed.
