Greene team platinum.....anyone?

I purchased a ton of these back before my furnace came. Haven't used any since I bought 4 tons of Fireside Ultras. I seen them back in stock at lowes today and was tempted to buy. But wife said, " don't we have enough this year?" It was very tempting to buy more but I walked away.....

Have you guys burned these?

 

I burn GT's first what do the cost ? they are no different than regular GT's just call them Platinum and jack up the price .

Same pellet, different batches, different results.... Good heat but a tad more ash volume....

 

I used to burn a lot of them but when they came out with the Platinum and jacked the price, I started boycotting Lowes. They were always hot and a little ashy but it's been a while.

 

Ive burned about 12 tons.. Then one day Lowes wanted lacrete money for a solid box pellet.

Rain doesn't pizz me off ... But dont pizz on me & tell me its raining

 

We also had it confirmed via the GT rep - The entire GT line is the same fuel.

So I am on my 4th bag and must say I do feel a heat difference in the house but definitely at the furnace itself. I have not changed any setting just pellets. I can't even stand infront of the furnace to look in, I feel my face heat up. I still wont pay $6.25 a bag, although I get employee discount on top of the Ton discount. It's just the point they want to rip customers off. If they were $239 a ton like HD fireside ultras I would buy again.

 

I don't think it's GT jacking the $$ - I presume it lowes.
The only time HD did a good chit tax it was for AWFWP & well worth it.

I had a choice of sets or gt at lowes... I bought the sets & they were cheaper than gt..

 

Yeah ,that makes sense to me ,but at the same time Why is GT putting them in different bags??

I know many pellets are re bagged for the big boxes ie Hamer's = Clean Energy sold @ Lowe's why to protect the small dealers ,because they will charge more than the big boxes . It's marketing ,I get it if you can get more $$ by putting the name Super or Platinum on a plastic bag , good for you .

But those of us that hang out here FHC know the games that are being played

 

Yes it's marketing, GT is in on it. They relabel because lowes wants a "special bag" that only they sell. All a sales tactic, all big box stores want to carry special lines of products. It's a shame because they aren't bad pellets at least for the farenheit.

I think Lowes and GT are in on it together. GT has 3 bags, Greene Team, Greene Team Platinum and Greene Gold. All the same pellet and all sold in different regions. GT will tell you they have no say in what Lowes sells their product for (Robbie at GT told me that on the phone) but I find it somewhat suspicious that the price up here only went up when the GT Platinum were introduced.

 

So I got around to burning maybe 12 bags or so. I started using these AFTER I gave the furnace a good vacuum.

So after about 12 bags, yesterday I noticed a lazy flame. I realized the ash and fines were lit on fire all around the pot. I shut it down, let it cool down. There were lots of fines/dust all around the pot. In the pot was just black ash, looks like the furnace hadn't done the pot change yet.

I had to give it a good vacuum and it ran great. I did NOT have this problem with the Fireside Ultras.

 

Burned through 30 bags so far, good heat but I did have to adjust for more air. At the damper setting for FSU, flame was dirty/orange red. More air better looking flame color.

The cup only serves to create a gap between screen & bucket floor.

 

Looks like mine except I have the mesh on top with edges curved so I don't lose pellets. One bag was so bad, it filled a bucket 1/4 way. I couldn't believe it, I think that bag was wet.

 

AWF-WP are really the only ones I screen.
