Last Monday I got a MS 261 with a 3/8 lo pro b/c. At first I think the dealer thought I was crazy. When I went to pick it up the guy that is in charge of the small engines said he tried it out and it cut pretty good. I think he was impressed with the way it cut. He said he might switch his 026 over to 3/8 lo pro. Another guy at the dealer was interested in the setup. I told him he could try it out but he didn't want too. He wants me to let him know how it works for me. Thanks MasterMech for doing this thread it made choosing a bar and chain for my 261 easy.

Did you ever get around to retreating after porting? My MS261 currently set up .325/7pin will be coming home soon with some extra bananas.

No Mike, not yet. Been busy with the day job, family, and keeping up with the work I do have in the shop so my playtime has been pretty limited. I'd like another good, fairly soft log to do the test in and all I have readily available here is a nice stick of Shagbark Hickory. I will get 'er done as soon as I get another Silver Maple log to cut in.

    Enjoy that saw!

That's why I don't want to run the test in that stuff. I'm itchin to get it done tho and the first opportunity I get to bring in something nice and soft, I will!

My usual Stihl dealer. No fuss, but it was a special order part.

Your pretty good at explaining things. I get lost in all the different chain numbers and types. Could you do a saw chain for dummies thread lol

I'm new to this forum. Came over here because of this thread. Thanks MM and all the other contributors.

I took a real interest in a Picco conversion after seeing my 200t literally kick chips on my 024s. I'm thinking the 024 is a good candidate for a Picco chain.

How does your 024 cut with the New set-up? I have some 024s and I'm thinking of going Picco on them.

    Welcome to FHC!

The picco chain is a great choice for the 50 cc and under saws.

    I love this little chain!

I doubt they would. :(. There's rules about that, and stuff. :zip: I might be able to dig one up in the near future.

Thanks DexterDay. I'd like to use the same chain on as many saws as is feasible. My 200t and 024 are no-brainers.
In reference to my 036 Pro, what about chip clearance? I don't want to sacrifice chip clearance for cut speed.

It's popular for milling with large power heads by amish. Also in Austrailia in milling competions with ported 120cc saws.

I never did try it on the 88. I wonder if they've started using it down under to do this?

Lol. I was editing with a different line of thought while you 2 quoted me. I guess PS will handle any saw. I've read that chip clearance may suffer with larger saws. Any thoughts on that?

Thx Mike, that is what I was thinking about. I'm sure they use the LP for that.
I've never used it. You can clip the heel and dog bone the link behind for quick clearance.

They were using .325" on some of those with ported 3120s.
