It's not too cold but the wing is blasting and the light snow is swirling and it's only going to get worse as the day goes on. Way too much wind to be safe felling the trees that I want to get down. So I guess they will have to wait a bit longer.

Only one thing left to do; go to the wood pile with the new MS 362 and shorten some of the wood I split 3 and 4 years ago for the open fireplace, that is now filled in with the Buck insert. I'm years ahead on wood so I still have several cord of splits cut to 24 and 26 inches for the fireplace.

That job stinks but it has to be done and the MS 362 with the 16" bar should cut through them like they were warm butter.

It's not that I can't get out to do anything here. It is more a case of I don't want to go outside and do anything except hurry back inside. There won't be much outdoor work done here for the next week.

I had some ground work to do so I went out for about a couple hours this morning. -15F and 25 mph winds out of the north. I added a wind protection drap to the back of my helmet and that helped a lot.

I just got a 362 also. So far, I'm not too impressed with it. Mine stalls often and seems to idle too low. Have you had any problems with yours?

I spent about a half hour swinging the maul today, it was pretty nice until around 5. Temps in the low 20s and little wind, which is pretty nice for splitting I think. We got a little bit of snow here but like other places in the east the wind is going to make it pretty miserable the next few days.

Runs great so far. Only about 2 hours on it, but in that time a fair amount of ideling time and starts and stops. I'm actually impressed with it.

Cold, snowing and getting colder here. Went out to scrounge my scrub stacks for any cut dead standing since I'm getting low and found a single row of hickory down. Everything is covered in snow and frozen together. Did what I had to do but no new splitting or cutting going on here either.

I got a little bit of maul time in, myself. Then I went inside for lunch and the weather blew in. Winds picked up and it looked like a blizzard over here. Whiteout conditions. Wind chill is -26 right now.

Glad yours is running well. I would imagine that mine just needs a carb adjustment. Stihl dealer said that the next generation of saws wil have EFI. I was tempted to hold off on my purchase.

Is yours still under warranty? With the M-Tronic system and no carb adjustment screws where you can easily get to them, owner servicing my be on another level now. I'm not a mechanic, and I don't play one on T.V., but I'm guessing to service the new M-Tronic and Auto-Tune saws you need a diagnostic computer to plug into the saw to read the engine error codes.

I think a computer is needed to diagnose any problems. I will prolly just have the dealer take a look at it, at some point. They should be able to tell that it is stalling. I think the computer gives them actual run times. I have heard of a few complaints where guys said theirs ran rough at first, but got better with time. Might run a few more tanks of gas through it and see if it improves.

My 261 would stall if left to idle for more than 30 seconds or so in cold weather. It no longer does that. The best thing you could do for it would be to find some wood you can make 10-12 cuts in that are at least 15-20 seconds for each cut. Run it wide-open in the cut, no babying, and make each cut one right after the other. It should have itself dialed in pretty good after that. The other side of this issue is that the m-tronic system remembers what settings to use for certain ambient temperatures so a good training regimen may take a couple seasons worth of cutting. But the stalling should go away between 4-8 tanks. If it doesn't, I'd take it back.

That is good information, thank you. I was gonna run it this afternoon but decided to split some elm instead. We'll see how it does next weekend.

I should mention my 441 was perfect from day 1. I don't condone new equipment that doesn't function 100% but I believe in giving these new saws a chance to sort themselves out. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease if that makes any sense.
