    Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

    When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
    There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
    There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

    All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
    The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

    They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

    You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

    Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

    Thanks for the condolences everyone. We are on our way to the vet now to have him cremated. Dawn is really taking this hard, so I'm being as supportive as I can. Thanks again for all the thoughts and kind words. Although I know we were great "parents" to Buster, reading my extended FHC family reinforcing that helps so much.:)

    So Sorry. It always sucks losing a long time companion like that.

    Not that it'll make you feel any better but we have one that we just found out is riddled with cancer. He's only 6. In just 3 weeks he went from :dancer: to hardly able to walk. We're going to let him go on Saturday. :tears:

    UncleJoe , I am truly sorry to hear this. Our rottie had a major tumor in the roof of his mouth that extended to his throat that grew in a matter of weeks. Besides showing him extreme love knowing he was getting put to sleep, I picked up the most expensive, thickest steak I could find and cooked it medium rare and he ready loved It.

    Below is a link to the thread I started about 14 months ago. It was after we found out that Buster had the beginning stages of heart failure. I think 14 months is a great haul, considering he lived to be 16.5 years old. I remember the animal hospital dr explaining he probably only had 6 mos, maybe a bit longer with heart disease.
