Let's talk about loud for a second, shall we? The camera is nothing.it sounds like being in the pits at a top fuel event. :dex:

I've been around loud music, machinery, chain saws & other stuff since I was 12 or so.If I hadn't started wearing ear protection (even before OSHA made it mandatory on the job) in my early 20's I'd been deaf years ago already.

I actually don't notice alot of difference between my ported/mm'd saws and stock. To me, all chainsaws are loud. The worst I've ever heard was when the Township went through and trimmed up along 117. Bucket truck and a 200T sure made a heck of a noise. Much louder than my neighbors who run bigger saws for firewood. Maybe the noise carried extra since he was up in the bucket. Also, I don't know what kind of muffler mod he did or didn't have.

Your welcome to come over to my place in Palmyra and see/hear for yourself. I just don't have anything bigger than 12" diameter to cut right now. Also, I would strongly recommend attending the Central PA GTG in May to run a bunch of saws back to back and see what you do and don't like. It's a great bunch of guys and gals. Detail are available on another site, whose initials are AS...

I would keep my eyes peeled for a used 660. They seem to be popping up a lot now that the 661 is out.

I know my MM hybrid is a loud SOB. It puts my 660 with a DP cover to shame. I believe it's even louder than my 056 with the stock dual port. However, my MM 260 isn't bad at all. It sounds pretty dang good actually.

I've always wanted to run one of those big old Macs. Watching them on youtube over the years, they have a great, distinct sound.

My Pioneer P60 is louder than any of my ported saws... The 2172 has the loudest /most aggressive sound of my ported saws, but nowhere close to as loud as my (stock) P60. This 2172 is basically opened up as large as the baffle will allow it to be...

I probably should not ask this :) (shouldn't be thinking about other/another saw)

I dont know anything about j-reds.

but... looking on their site at specs, what is the difference between the 2166 and the 2172, they are both 70.7cc, and both weigh 14.1lbs, but the 2166 is rated @ 4.8hp where the 2172 is 5.6hp both saws being the same cc size anyone know the difference in them?

Also do any of the j-reds come with auto tune?

    thanks,
    Matt

Pretty sure there like the 365 and 372 just transfers are the difference.

Husky and j reds are the same.

    2172=372

thanks for the info guys! I wonder why they make a 2166, when it so close to the 2172? What is the market for a 2166?

Does Husky put auto tune on any of them j-reds?

Simpler for them to make a small piece for transfer covers different than a whole other cylinder. It's a good bit cheaper for people who don't want to pay the up charge for the little bit of horsepower.

The 2252, 2253, 2258, and 2260 have it so far.

Isn't there a different air filter and top cover on the 365XT and the 372XT?

Why did Stihl make a 290/310/390 when they technically could have made just the 390 for the same price as the 290? :sherlock:

Yes, the J-red equivalents of the Husky 545, 550, 555, 562 are all AutoTune saws and there may be a couple more. (T540 and the 576?)

The 2166 / 365 used to be a 65cc cylinder. They must have been sharpening the business pencils when they decided to make it 70cc like the 372/ 2172 and de-tune it.

If you're at the store and you see two 70cc saws with the same features and weight, and one weighs more, the more powerful one will be easier to sell. You might see it as spending a bit more for a "tune" from the factory. So even though you're making less money on the x65, I'll bet they get it back on the x72. Only real chainsaw nerds compare the specs in much detail.

Yes, that's another difference. I hear the performance difference between the two is disputed.

Yep the 365 usually always has the low air filter and the 372 usually always has an HD air filter on it. At least the ones I see.

And good point on the 1127 line of saws. Why not just make one 64cc jug and call it the farm boss and get rid of the rest. Must be cheaper to just make the larger cylinder and not have to tool up for the other two.

The 2172 is a strato saw and the 2171 isn't.

When both are clean = no difference...
The high top filters of the 372 can run 3x's longer intervals between cleaning.
I actually prefer the low top, but ya gotta clean it every day.
