What is this used for?

I know it's a hoist! But it has a different configuration them most hoists you see. I'm just wondering if this had a specific use.

 

Looks like it has a braking system for the line.

Kind of reminds me of an old come-along.

 

You only have one half of a block and tackle. Looks to be in good shape. We use something similar for pulling wire into sag at work, but without the fancy brake system. We just have a notch to catch the rope in.

 

I was gonna say the same thing, an all steel block and tackle. Looks like it's in decent shape too.

 

That is not mine, I was looking to bid on it but this seller gets a lot of followers so I held off. It went for $46 plus shipping.

It's just crazy what some people will pay for thing on fleabay. I may have paid $20 in the heat of the moment.

Hanging animals for skinning. My grandfather would use old metal pullies to dry animals.
