The ole' lady's cousin dropped off a load of logs today. He owns a logging and excavating company so we do some bartering from time to time. I weld on his equipment and he brings me a a few loads of logs a year. I couldn't help but drop the 2171 into a few blocks after work!! Averages out to about 13-14 face cord on his tandem Western Star.
I think you have a nice barter going, thats a nice load of logs. I'd keep that relationship going as long as you can
It's a pretty good gig. My brother and I own 60 acres that we use for hunting and firewood. But I don't mind a few loads of logs a year. So far so good. I've never used semi chisel chain before. Cuts pretty good. A good friend of mine says they hold an edge longer and are easier to sharpen. We shall see! There is white birch, beech, red and white oak, and cherry.
Some nice beech there. Didn't notice the white birch at first. I seldom get any here. Have small stand of paper birch at the gate, but it is almost always rotten inside by the time it falls....I use the bark as firestarter, the tree itself enriches the forest floor.... Does make nice, quickly igniting firewood when you can get it. And I like the color flame it burns with. A bit different than my other wood.
I can pick out the beech, birch and cherry in the pic, the oak I'd have to be standing there I think. Nice straight long logs. Hope they stay on top of the snow.
