I have a pretty good relationship at our local 84 lumber. I built and finished a whole house through them on their credit card, but that's a whole other story. Well today I stopped in to pick up a board and the manager and I started chatting. He asked if I was done spending money and told him almost! Told him I wanted to build another lean to shed to put the tractor and stuff in and he said I got a deal for you, but you have to buy it all. He went on to tell me that one of the employees double ordered steel for a building and they needed to clear it from inventory. I ended up buying it, I got 16 12' and 11 8' pieces of brown metal roofing all for the grand total of........$250!
Every once and a while I fall into a deal....and I seldom ever pass them up. Wife thinks I'm a hoarder.....maybe!
For sure one can occasionally run into deals like that but perhaps that one tops most! I remember one year we had wanted to get a generator for quite some time and one day we had to go to the city and happened to stop at a HD. They were just putting out some new generators that they had just received. I asked about a deal, being as how they had plenty. Okay, the guy said. How about one of last year's models? He had one left. Not too bad as we got it for around $150 less than we would have paid. We've had that for many moons now and are still thankful.
The deal got even sweeter.......he went ahead and threw in the rest of the metal! Looks like I'm gonna be building a 24x24 garage once I gather up the lumber. I just have to buy posts and a few trusses, gonna keep an eye out on Craig's.
