    The heartwood's greenish hue is telltale tulip poplar.

    Cool.. Believe it or not, I wanted some poplar or more ash so I can css it now for next year's shoulder season. I burned up too much good stuff early. It's a pretty good pile for a 50$ delivery tip. 20150202_170519.jpg

    If I get that tulip css'd in the next few weeks, it should be good to go for shoulder wood in the fall shouldn't it? I hope so because it's a big pile..lol..

    Watch for the vines. Can't tell on my phone but maybe poison ivy. Don't burn with the vine still on.

    Yeah it's covered in vines. It doesn't seem to bother me but I'll whack them off as I cut it..

    Looks like Tulip to me... You got a bunch of wood there for $50.00! it will be wet And heavy, but dry pretty quickly.

    I like to have shoulder wood also, great to light fires and mix in with the good stuff.... :yes: Nice find for 50 bucks delivered.

    The vines look like grape to me, especially in the second photo. Poison ivy would be hairy and stuck to the trunk. Those look free, hairless and loose.

    That reminds me I need to cut down some poplar and box elders for shoulder wood next year.

    I'll still pull the vines off as I cut. Gonna get started today. Took a closer look at the pile and found some ash branches at the bottom. Told the guy if he gets some loads like that of oak or locust don't even call.. Just drop it:D

    I burn poplar in the shoulder season as well. Works good. I also use the dryer stuff as kindling at times.
