That looks excellent. Rustic looking. I bet a venison meat pie made with the seasonings of a French Tourtiere pie would be very good too.

Oh yeah brother! That's the way I like it, uh huh, uh huh. I made some venison pasties last year and they were great, but I like that your ratio of meat vs. everything else is very high! As it should be.

I think BCB's pie looks better than the one in the recipe.

thanks! I used 1/4c of buckwheat flour instead of the spelt or acorn flour he used. I had buckwheat on hand already and figured I'd try it out. the rest of the recipe was followed as written.

I also like the fact that the crust is bread-based, rather than pastry. A bit more substantial; how did it taste?

Theyre very good. I ate 2 for dinner. Adding cheese to it would be a good idea. Its like a burger patty inside. With all the seasonings I think dipping it in some marinara sauce would be good too. I'm gonna try the sauce out at lunch.

Here is mine! It's going to be an effort to wait til dinner time. Having one with kale and carrots.
I used bacon fat instead of lard, added rosemary. Had to lay a sheet of foil on top after about ten minutes, it was browning really fast. They smell wonderful!

Thanks! Had a bumper crop of green beans and butternut squash too. Good thing I don't have to can the squash, I used every jar in the basement, and had to buy another two boxes!
I am SO tempted to cut into one, "just to check...";):chef:
