Well, I was responding to your post that ended with the line:

"PS, please go easy here as no offense is intended and I enjoy reading the results of these techniques."

??? It seemed to be that you were expecting some kind of abrasive retort, otherwise why would one say such as thing as 'Please go easy here....'?

Anyway, I will continue to study, learn and post about my I.S. and look forward to the same from anyone and everyone else.

Once again I refuse to go into whatever controversy you seem to think exists. I have never said anything negative about you so just drop it.

I think we are all taking this stove too seriously. I am just glad it's keeping me warm right now. The wind is howling and it's cold..

C'mon guys, it's about the IS, no need to butt heads, especially here.
The IS owners (mostly) that are involved with this thread are all
involved with the first year of burning with their IS. We share info and
ask questions to maximize what others have learned and help by
sharing with the rest of us here.

Yeah, sometimes I think there are different versions of English and I am not familiar with some of them :) No matter, nothing has changed and this little.... whatever it was was just a little speed bump on the 'Net.

On a brighter note, looks like we are headed into some sub- zero weather shortly; more work ahead for our stoves according to the forecast. Assuming the temps. are as predicted right now, this will be the coldest I (and I think we) have used my I.S. during so far, -5F on Tues.

We have had one other cold snap where we were sub 0 for a night or two but as you said this will be another test for the IS as a performer yet again. I have brought in a few armfulls of oak for the occasion. I know what it will do for me and the burn times I will get from it, the only downfall I have is the coaling with oak, they stay huge for a long period of time and don't give me the heat I need when they are burning down and therefore tey take up needed space for reloads.

Speedbump is over, moving on and doing what we do on this thread.

I must admit, last year's experience with the Beta stove has left me lazy this year. The Beta stove was so idiot proof, so predictable, so controllable, that with this stove we just load it, get it up to temp, engage the cat, set the air, then forget about it. If I need more heat I open the air a bit, if not I cut it back. If I want the heat to stay on the first floor I turn on the ceiling fan in the stove room. If I leave it off the heat rises to the second floor and keeps the bedrooms and the attic warm.

I'm just not paying that much attention to it. It chugs along reliably and I don't need to mess with it. My wife is actually running the stove this month. She's never touched our stoves before this one. She's even started it from cold a couple times. It's a great stove for beginners because its so easy to run but it's also a great stove for tinkerers and mad scientists as this thread proves.

I'm enjoying this thread and all the discussion and IS tips, tricks and tonics.

Glad to have the drama in the past to.
One of the reasons I picked this stove was this thread.

I don't even have an IS, and I'm gleaning all kinds of good info.

You might want to keep an eye on woodstock soapstone website for when the start bets testing the new Franklin stove. Word is its more efficient and has lower emissions. Tad smaller than the IS though.

And to be honest with you Chestnut , the beta testers sold this stove to me.
BrianK was instramental in my making a deposit on this beast.
He answered every question and offered up many posts during the season last year.
I'm glad this and other threads, helped you to decide on this stove too.

    Yep, been watching.
Just like I did when the PH, and the IS were in frankenstove mode.
Not a fan of the "wings" on the new Franklin.......but I wasn't much of a fan of the IS looks either.
    Kinda grew on me though.

I agree with you. The IS is very industrial looking, my old stove (the Jotul) had some really
attractive cast iron features, very pleasing to the eye. BUT, this stove can coooook

Interestingly enough, my wife loved the looks of our Woodstock Fireview, and still gives me a hard time about the lack of Fireview aesthetics in the new stove.

But she'll actually load and run this stove now. She never so much as touched the Fireview. (Plus she says you can hear more fire sounds with the IS, which to her is a plus. The inner and outer soapstone walls of the Fireview deadened the sounds of a crackling fire.)

Erh, um, uh, in my opinion, heading into sub zero weather is not a brighter note. Cold weather makes me stay inside, drink beer and eat crap food. Wait a minute, in warm weather I go outside, drink beer and eat crap food. Never mind.....

Did anybody else have really cold windy conditions last night? I felt air coming in all the cracks of my house all night haha. Thankfully, the IS gave me a good night's rest and kept the upstairs at 67. A little thanks goes to some 3 year old white oak and locust.
