This is all coming from the owner of a modified 441 that will make good running 90cc saws (stock saws) check their six. One reason I picked the 441 was that on top of having the tech I wanted in a new saw, a very well known and respected saw builder assured me that it would be a helluva runner once modified. The 461 is a runner too but my point here is that if you were concerned that the tech would limit the performance potential of the saw, it most certainly does not!
No not really so much worried about it limiting performance just I like to fix and repair my stuff I enjoy maintaining my stuff and was concerned that with this technology it would limit my ability to do some of the work I'm a dinosaur guy I guess lol. I'm just not real thrilled if I have a problem I have to take it and have it plugged into a computer. A car I get. I have a snap on computer myself. But a chainsaw I just can't see it Maybe I'm putting to much thought into it I don't know. I just want it to work as hard as I do and last for many years
People think the cars are so different now then they were before. The fact is they are not. Just like the m tronics. Car and saw still work off the same principles they did back in the 40s. Intake, compresstion, ingnition and exaust. The ONLY thing the m tronics does in regulate your air fuel mixture just like the old TBI systems. Correct me if i am wrong but pretty sure i am not. Now the pistion jug and so on are the same, you just have a throddle Body injection system now.
Not even that far along yet. It's still just a carburetor, just like any other diaphragm carb on a small engine. The only thing m-tronic affects is the adjustments.
TBI sounded good lol. Like i said i am up for correction. That the best thing i had to compair it to.
That cleared it up a little better for me I may go with a 441. I have used one once and that was ever so brief. a friend has one but he is one of those if you had the only one made his is better types, so asking him for a good opinion isn't a option
I understand, but, my MS461 is now fully ported and wearing an unlimited coil. Tunes out around 14,200. Just ordered an 8 pin rim to go with my shorter bars. I think I'll be keeping this saw for a very LONG time. Sorry,
Nothing wrong with the 461 at all. Two different approaches to a 70 cc saw from one manufactuer is all. One's high tech, the other is a relatively simple powerhouse. What baffles me is why the 461 costs more than the 441.
441 or 461, you can't go wrong. The parts are going g to cost about the same and carb/module /coil os about all that is different. Instead of your 3 small screws (Idle, Low speed, and High speed) that you adjust for tune, the carb/oil does it automatically and keeps the saw always running to its full potential. I had a 441C-M and it ran good.. But I like the 460/461 a little better.
Alot of good tech advances lately but if ya can't cover the simple/basic principle of more power to weight with the new models ..idk...husqvarna is making a good time of it
I knew somebody would say that. The 461 should be a less expensive machine to manufacture is what I'm saying. Simpler castings, a lot fewer parts, and it shares some parts with saws they have been manufacturing for nearly 20 years.
This is too logically for the market. More cc's/power MUST equal more cost, regardless of the technology and manufacturing costs. Who would buy an MS441CM if it cost more than the MS461, but had less horsepower and lower power to weight?
M Tronic is a feature that is new, I remember when Harley add fuel injection. It was the end of the world !! People where climbing out of there skin with how do work on it. Ended up working just fine !! Don't be feared !!
Rains brings up a good point. M-tronic is cool, but the long term is probably fuel injection of some sort or another. I think Stihl already has it on their cut-off saws, but I don't know if/when they plan to bring it to chainsaws. Not sure what it would do for the modders out there, but it would probably make the saws run better for the average user, if somewhat harder for us FHC types to mess with the tuning and so on.
I bought the 441 fer 2 reasons..the AV and the technology...its a great saw...the choice is up to you..im sure youll be happy either way....i mean its a Stihl for goodness sake
