Where you were at to snap that pic looks like a great place to have an easy chair, a brewsky and the fire warming the bottoms of your feets.
Nice Buck. Love to have a newer model but my 2700 does the trick for now. Replacing it with an energy king furnace when the addition is complete.
Holy carp, LP, that is a buttload and a half of coals! Too cold up there to burn 'em down, just tossin' in more wood?
It just looks that way from the picture Woody, about 1 hr into the burn. There wasn't a ton of coals at all
I let 'er go out last night because I was finishing up on my SIL's Dutchwest. This AM, just had a few coals so ran a couple splits to get some coals and get temps up. I usually pull up the coals and make a trench in the middle where the shotgun air comes in, then put 2 splits in E-W with about a half-inch gap between 'em. This way, they burn hot in the space between and gas each other, resulting in big flames while keeping the air pretty low. I can get up to temp quicker that way. The Cherry and White Ash on the right took off quicker than the Hickory and Oak in the middle (didn't leave enough space between those) so I had flame on the right for a little while after I closed the bypass. In the third pic you can see the cat glowing through the bypass rod hole. Last pic is blurry but you get the idea, 375/1100 burn when I cruised it. If you need more heat, just run both meters higher before cruising. At 500+ stove top, she's bustin' out the heavy heat. You hold your hand in front of one of the center blower ports for more than a few seconds. The ports over the bay window blow out diagonally, not as hot or strong as the center ports.

Great pic there....a ripping fire soothes the soul in the depths of winter. That's one thing I miss about my prior EPA tube stove, an active fire and coal bed to look at through the glass. The Ideal Steel is doing just great, but most of the time, the firebox is dark while the cat is eating the smoke. Would I go back? No, but I do miss the light show on biter cold nights.
Buck is cruising at 550 and cat at 1750 with beech and hickory.....warming things real good for the -3º expected tonight.
Yep. Pretty easy to get floater flame dancing around the box with the cat shield close to the wood like it is, or a little more flame off the wood if you want. Yikes! Ohio is right next door but we're worlds apart tonight; 23 is the forecast low here tonight, so I just cruised 'er at 470/1300. Heheh.
