There has been a change in the Harman 52i combustion blower covers. The issue being the older, original covers could be installed out of their recessed area causing noise and slower ignition of pellets. The newer cover is the same, but with a tooth to hold the bottom in place, also ensuring the cover be properly installed. This cover is behind the right hand heat exchanger cover, which should be removed every month for cleaning. this is the location of the combustion blower cover....to the lower right of the burnpot. In this pic, the exchanger cover, flame guide, and medallion have been removed to better show the location. The latch is closed in this pic this picture is the combustion blower cover removed. Please note that this is an OLD, original combustion blower cover. It has been replaced with the NEW one below. The Harman part number of the new one is 1-10-574087A. The new one is pictured below. This is the NEW combi blower cover. Note the tooth on the underside.....this holds the cover in place. its recommended that if you have an old version cover, you should get a new one from your dealer. Its covered under warranty, so shouldn't cost you anything. Be sure to latch the new cover on when putting it in place.
Thank you for sharing that, I think we have an old one. We went back and removed the covers and plates and reset everything. Stove has been burning for 3 hours so far without whistling. I also printed out the most recent owners manual. Thanks again. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in time.
LW nice pics, thanks for jumping in to help . Is that a new burn pot ?? Mine doesn't have the holes on the side , maybe it's for the insert only ??
Will, yes, AFAIK, its 52i only.....never saw a ventilated Accentra F/S burnpot at all....not saying they don't exist, but I've never seen one..... The holes in the side, I THINK, was an attempt to minimize carbon accumulation at the auger, but in reality, it seems to minimize air by the igniter enough to slow the ignition...if a stove gets even marginally dirty, well, then there's no ignition.
yea, JG, I think you will.......I would suggest getting with your dealer and having the burnpot and combustion blower cover replaced.
Nice info on the extra air holes. So after the row of holes in front of the auger, this is maybe yet another attempt for carbon buildup that does not work as intended? Funny how just scraping the pot keeps carbon at bay pretty nicely. Scrape every few days while burning and a weekly or even bi-weekly firebox clean takes care of it as well. But then again, a pellet stove doesnt need maintenance, right?
the issue is that SO many people just don't do it! The manufacturer tries to make is as user-friendly as possible......sometimes it works (usually), but, sometimes not. And yea, these pellet stoves, they don't need cleaning or anything, right?
I chisel mine out every week with a hammer and flat bladed screwdriver. Just scraping the pot doesn't seem to do it.
The flat head screwdriver and hammer come out every once in a while. Otherwise the carbon buildup I get doesn't bother anything, as long as its not right at the auger tip and squealing. I did have that a few nights ago where it did not clear itself like it usually does. I shut down quickly, cleaned the pot and re fired.
The speedbump? I hit that regularly with one of these while its burning. It actually does a great job on the whole pot.
The long one works great and is the one I have. http://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-3350-Pry-Bar-5-Piece/dp/B000NPR2YY/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1422146108&sr=1-1&keywords=tekton pry bar They use to sell them single, but I cant find that right now.....
That is because they use the manual to start their first fire with according so someone who works for another stove company.
