Furnace ashpan door draft position

    Never really though much about it.
    My draft hole is covered by a spring loaded teardrop cover and I always open it to the hinge side of the door,,,,,, for no real reason,,, just do.
    Was cleaning up around the front of furnace and bumped it closed. For some reason I opened it the other way so that it was open towards center of the door.
    BIG difference in ash/coal production. Very fine ash and very tiny coals if any at all. Always wondered why it made so many good sized coals that never completely burned up. Emptying ash box every 2-3 days now instead of every day.
    Funny how little things make a difference

    each stove is different.Its neat to find the little secrets that makes each piece of equipment different
