Yeah......It's a shame about the Cuisinier as it would have worked perfect for a ton of folks.
I saw the potential in the design years ago as we have been working on something similar, but have been too busy to bring it all together.
Having something ready to go that did not break the bank and actually worked well, as a cook stove and heater, would have given me a product I have a market for.
There are lots of folks that live in over regulated areas where smoke can be an issue due to so many living so close, EPA Certs make life easier for them to get it installed.

Just be thankful you don't live in a State like Washington that is out of control with this EPA stuff. Few folks it seems know what the regulations are.
Worse yet... few inspectors and regulators know or understand their own laws and are constantly calling us for answers.
Reminds me a lot of the State I left, for the same reasons I left, over regulated, over taxed.

At the end of the day it is not about how many sales we made, rather, how many new friends we made.
They, like you make up a large part of our sales force and keep us growing.
The stove should work as designed, its a cook stove after all, at least that is what I was told.

Looking forward to helping you figure this out. Don't let the UL thing scare you, just make sure it is installed as I specified and get the right folks to sign off after inspection and you should be fine.
We'll discuss how to find out to make all that happen.

I bake on top of my Progress Hybrid soapstone stove, and it works fine. I still want to make a three sided soapstone stove that will sit on the top, though. I think that would make an awesome oven, based on my experience with the methods I presently use.

Stove top baking can be done and your soapstone oven idea sounds like just the ticket Sherwood. Keep us posted.

Being were now on to Soapstone lets talk about the Heartstone Deva which is also a great wood cook stove, made in Spain and imported by Hearthstone Stove Company in Vermont.
Obadiah's is proud to offer Hearthstone to our clients and provides Hearthstone products where there are no local Hearthstone dealers. If there is, we refer the sale over to the local dealer.

Let me start with a big "Thanks" for allowing me to share the info with you on this website.
Few dealers are afforded this kind of respect as I receive here at FHC, we are honored.

I don't want it to come across like I am pushing a product, I would rather be a source of info for those who need it, hence all the posts here on this thread, which I hope is providing a brief lesson wood burning cookstoves.
I am posting links to my websites because I know where the info is there. There are other dealers out there who are honest and knowledgeable, then again there are some who are not, whomever you buy from, ask lots of questions about the product and test their knowledge. If you have problems later, having someone with experience can be valuable.

As many of you know we are one of the largest cookstove providers in North America and have lots of experience with using cookstoves, having lived off grid in the Rockies for over 10 yrs.
I get this question all the time, "what is the best wood cookstove out there?" That is a loaded question and depends on the application the stove will be used for.
This is why Obadiah's has the largest wood cookstove inventory found anywhere. Our huge volume means we deal direct with the manufactures and receive special pricing and service from our suppliers, which we pass on to you.

We also are one of the largest Biomass Boiler dealers in North America and have over 50 years’ experience of combined expertise in the Heating, HVAC, Hydronics and engineering.
Our engineering abilities are exhibited here on our other site in our custom designed and built emergency management equipment we provide to various government agencies under agreement, during disasters. http://wildfirefighters.com/
We feel it is this ability that allows us to critique our products for our customers and give them a perspective that no other competitor can match. No one has the experience with fire management and engineering that Obadiah's has.

There are many styles of cookstoves, from super fancy Esse 990s that we offer for over $10k, Heartland Aga's are also way up there too. Those stoves are cook stoves and heat with Hydronics.
We have a complete line of reproduction cookstoves from Heartland that work well and look great, but are not very good heating stoves.
The Waterford from Ireland is also at the top of the list for these types of stoves, but I think heats better.
We have some compact cookstoves from Australia called the Bakers Oven, which is also a very good heating, cooking and baking stove if you don't have the room.

In my opinion if your looking for a great wood cookstove and are more concerned with function verse's form, then the Anabaptist stove makers have it down to a science.
The best companies I have dealt with so far have been Kitchen Queen and Pioneer Stoves, there are others but they require more primitive ways of communication, we live in the age of the internet, so it does not work for us.
Our suppliers need a fax at the minimum to deal with us, writing letters and sending them snail mail won't work. If we have a problem we try to have an answer for the customer ASAP.

The Amish/Mennonite stove are more robust and heavily built. Many of these families are very large so the homes and meals are also large, so the stove must function well as heaters too.
I have used a Kitchen Queen to heat our spaces, domestic hot water, baking and cooking. The ladies tell me there is no better cookstove in their opinion as the oven works well and fast,
I like the engineering in the design of the Kitchen Queen as it is built more like a commercial boiler. It is the heaviest built cookstove we offer and I know about. The 480 is pushing 900 lbs!
They come in two sizes, large is the 480 and the 380 is also called the Cabin Queen as it is designed for smaller cabins whereas the KQ 480 will heat close to 5000 sq. ft. according to some of the review clients have posted on our website.
Getting folks to post reviews about their stoves can be like pulling teeth, but the Kitchen Queen folks are pretty proud of their stoves and have been screaming it from the rooftops for quite some time now.

The Kitchen Queen is now by far the largest selling cookstove in the US. We are proud of this and we work together with Kitchen Queen to constantly improve the stove. You can get into a Kitchen Queen for as low as $2k plus shipping.
Lots of options with this stove.
    http://woodstoves.net/cookstoves/kitchenqueen.htm
We have introduced glass doors and heat shields in response to customers’ requests.
For us selling stoves is easiest when the customers are the happiest, in several thousand of Kitchen Queen sales over the past, almost 20 yrs, we feel that this is the stove that has produced the fewest issues we needed to address as a dealer for our client.
This has resulted in a natural tendency for our staff to want to sell the products that produce the least headaches. As a dealer we are only as good as our supplier, we like working closely with them and appreciate it when we get prompt attention to issues and they are resolved. Kitchen Queen is one of our best manufactures because of our close relationship that has developed over the years.

The Kitchen Queen originated in Montana and was deigned and built here. Kitchen Queen went back East and the founders nephew started Energy Queen and produced the clone to the Kitchen Queen. All this history stuff is on the website we had built for folks who are into wood cookstoves, as a place like this to hang out and get to know other wood cookstove users and share info about Sustainability. http://cookstoves.net/articles/cookstove-history/

Obadiah's also sells lots of Pioneer Stoves like the Princess and Bakers Choice. The Pioneer Maid is getting a little long in the tooth and will be retired. There is rumors of a replacement stove being unveiled at some point.
The Princess is a redesigned Maid with a front loading door verses the top loading Maid.
The Bakers Choice is one of the best "Budget Cookstoves" on the market, when you compare it to what else is available, it is a bargain, but if your using it daily, spend the money on a stove that has Porcelain everywhere or volunteer to keep the stove clean for your wife. A painted oven also emits toxic fumes which are absorbed into your food when it bakes.

I won't get into details but I will say this, we sell stoves to modern folks who are trying to be more sustainable. They drive vehicles that are pretty sophisticated and it is all about fit and finish, they expect it in the stoves they purchase. The quality control at Pioneer Stoves has come up a great deal and they are working hard to make even further improvements in their stove design. As Pioneer continues to make improvements to their products and the way they do business, we will continue to make more videos about this product line and show folks more about this line of fine cookstoves. Even the folks at Pioneer will tell you to check the Kitchen Queen and the Princess side by side and purchase the one that works best for you. That is what I love about them, they are as honest and honorable as it comes, in this business. So there will be a new video coming out this summer on a side by side between the Queen and Princess. You will find these videos on my You Tube channel where we have taken the time to post videos about many of the products we offer. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQEFQJGOpz38hEQiQX8cJKA

Some have asked why we know longer offer Margin Stoves. I'd rather not go there anymore, other than to say that I had high hopes that we could have worked together with them as we have Kitchen Queen to offer you the quality our clients are looking for. Maybe someday we will be able to offer Margin again. The old fashion stoves they offer are actually very good and very reasonably priced, we had few complaints with them and lots of happy customers, the Flameview was another story, so we made the video that explained why we were getting the complaints we were from the clients that had purchased them.
The review I made on the Flameview that stomped on a lot of toes in this industry, but won us the reputation as a dealer who won't pull punches when it comes to saftey.

There is also this post that is on the"other" site that verifiys my concerns about the saftey issues with the Flameview.
    http://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/does-anyone-have-the-margin-flameview.113187/page-2#post-1588538

I hope this helps answer some questions for folks doing research down the road. The beauty of the internet is that I can answer a few questions I deal with everyday, here, for the future.
Thanks again for the ability to share here.
