Nope, about 40 miles east in Brookhaven. ;)

Nope, delivered compliments of "Sandy". ;)

Yep, been there before. Pretty cool how they pop back up after laying there for years.

Yeah, cherry dries pretty quickly. It smells very nice as well. A good portion of my wood this year came from 1 nice trunk that was 20+ inches in diameter.

Call them. The NY State Parks often let people buy a $5 daily permit to take firewood. However, they usually stage it, meaning they drag the rounds / trunks they want taken into a particular area (field of parking lot) and that is where you take from. You can't just head into the woods and take what you want normally. I've never done it, but I went into the office at Hechshire State Park in East Islip last year to talk about it. They have a lot of wood in there from sandy, they don't like leaving it lay because it's a fire hazard for them...

Personally the county's are a joke , I mean they could make lots of xtra $$ if they would just post up in the local paper or online for residents to purchase a daily or monthly permit to get wood in our state & county parks, there's tons of it just laying around waiting for the Beatles to eat it! I say put it to good use !
