Hey there reel. Unfortunately mine is not produced anymore. It's a 12 yr old sears cabinet 'whole house' humidifier called the quiet comfort 12. I actually have to modify wick filters to fit this humidifier, they don't make them anymore either. Another thing that is nice about the whole house humidifiers is that they also help clean the air being circulated through them. Occasionally I'll run the filters under some tap water and clean the airborn collected debris off.

Thanks for the info. Think I will look into the cabinet style. Gotta do something , it's crazy dry here and it's driving the wife nuts.

Sears still makes the cabinet/console wick type, just newer models. Also Essick has all kinds. I personally do not care for the ultrasonic ones.

Not sure if this applies to you, but check out how they get filled up. One of mine came with a 3 gallon tank that was a PIA to fill and replace. The other one has a spout to pour into, love it.

A couple of more points to consider. The cabinet humidifier draws the cooler air from the floor and blows it straight up. My wife complains of the cold air. I have had to move the cabinet for that reason. And without using the humidifier we were dealing with dry skin, chapped lips and cracked skin on my fingertips. As well as static electricity and dry eyes. they really do help.

Agreed, the ultrasonic cannot keep up with the needs of a whole house cabinet style humidifier. Too many problems with ultrasonic styles

We have all of the problems you listed ! I wonder if I put it in our bed room it would draw warm air from the hall into the room ? This room is upstairs and down the hall from the stove room ,so it is always the coolest room in the house. Or maybe I would be better off keeping it on the main floor ?

Mine was on the main floor. We are usually downstairs unless sleeping. I have a indoor weather unit in close proximitey so it helps me to know the indoor humidity. The other convenient thing with it being on the main floor was refilling it. It was more convenient using a pail and putting 6 gallons in it daily vs. going upstairs and doing it. I have a 1880's victorian style farmhouse, 2 stories. It might work better for you where you sleep, everyones different.

And easy to uplug and move to experiment with different locations. Ours gets a little loud in the living room when watching tv, but thats where we need it.

I run ours on low but constantly running. It works evenly keeping the house comfortable. The low setting helps keep the noise level down and I know that it will run like that for 24 hrs and then it's time for 6 more gallons.

Good point . I guess I will start on the main floor and see how it goes from there. Hopefully I will get something this weekend.

Well, I didn't get a chance over the weekend to get to the store for the humidifier. My wife's car needed repair so I pretty much spent all weekend fixing it. Once I was done with that, I had to move a bunch of wood into the garage in preparation for the big snow storm that was heading in. Maybe this weekend though. It looks like we have another storm heading our way so time will tell.

OMG. I just pulled the evaporative wick from my main humidifier. NOTE TO SELF: turn it off before 1 ton pellet stove cleanings..................

My wife put a 6qt cast pot onto the woodstove last weekend to get some additional moisture in the air. She's adding some vanilla, orange peel and lemon zest into the pot to get some fresh scents in the air, it smells nice.
