My new saw, that ran good for 5 tanks of fuel quite running! It would start up when cold, run for about 3 minutes and die! All I could find wrong was a plugged spark arrestor. Easy access on these new saws, one screw on side. Ordered a couple new spares. It had Fresh fuel, and not idled much. Has anyone besides me drilled holes or drove a punch through it? I had to do this on my wives weed eater. She idles most of the time! Checked my other saws and they were new looking still! ??!! Have a great winter all!
Running the stihl synthetic that extended the warranty. Thanks for the advice. I will run without it. And careful not to burn the woods down.
I would have to agree with Mdavlee, there is no way your spark arrestor should clog that fast. I would address that issue before I went back to cutting. Removing the screen will affect how rich your saw runs. Although it will be somewhat of a minor change. You might consider doing a muffler mod as well to wake the saw up. Though if you are worried about the warranty, don't bother.
Definitely not right to clog a screen with 5 tanks through a saw - any chance of a mistake in fuel mix and ran far too rich? I don't even think that would do this. Did the saw seem to have low power cutting? Computer bad causing real rich ratio? Looking forward to seeing what the deal is here. Cheers!
I agree, it may be the computer/coil/carb supplying to much fuel? I have only heard of one other C-M saw having a problem with fuel delivery. And to add to what Mike said, what ratio do you mix? A lot of users here run 32:1 and I have not heard of anything like that. Actually, I get the opposite. Instead of carbon, I get oil puddles. In the exhaust, out the deflector, etc.
Something is not adding up here. Plugging a screen that fast? Just a thought but M-tronic and AutoTune saws adjust fuel mixture while they are running wide open. You are running the saw at wide open throttle in the cut right?
