Woody Chain, am I going to run into problems with installing this stove being it isn't UL or Warnock-Hersey listed? I understand it's certified in Europe (which I heard has higher standards than here in the US), I just wanna be sure because that's a lot of money. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on this stove......

Yes, with the new EPA regs being pushed through, I gotta make sure it's not going to be wasted money. In 5 years the particulate allowance is going to be a huge factor in an investment of a stove like this. Gotta look at it from all angles....

Do you think in some areas they will make people change out there stoves or will they grandfather them in.
We can still burn piles of rubbish here (big ones as a matter of fact).

If it was really only a factor (EPA rated) in a sale of your house in the future... you could take it with you... ;)

    Sure is perty.

It's hard to say Sparky. That seems to be the big ?? here in regards to the rumored "bans" and such. Some groups say they won't affect stoves existing in your home (you'll be "grandfathered" in), others day it's the "foot in the door" and eventually they'll be deemed illegal. That's what makes me mad.....how can they allow a tax credit on a stove one year and a handful of years later it's illegal? Eats my craw I tell ya.....

A really nice looking antique cook stove on craigslist in my area now.
Antique cars and motorcycles are given exemptions so why not antique wood stoves?:D

    Woooooah Horsey..........
they already are guys......All "wood cookstove with working ovens", are EPA currently and will most likely always be exempt.
Why? we met with the EPA way back when we were doing the first pilot EPA Stove Change Out in Libby MT. There is an Amish community there, that uses wood cookstoves.
    1. We demonstrated that less than 3% of all new wood stoves sold are cookstoves that burn wood.
    2. We also demonstrated that Religious Liberty allows these folks to refuse to drive cars and comply on the highway where folks die every year as a result, do you really think the EPA could win if the DOT could not?

The key is the description the EPA puts on wood cookstoves.
The smoke must circulate around 4 sides of the oven, if it does not, it is not exempt.
Lets take a really hard close look at EPA regs what do they mean and how do they apply to you.

I don't care to get into a legal debate with anyone on this matter......but I will share my understanding of the "EPA Regulation" it is not a law.
There are still plenty of companies in North America that produce non compliant wood burning stoves. Before the EPA Regs we had 9000 stove manufactures in North America.
After the EPA Phase One we had 900. Phase 2 we had about 300. Today there are less than 100 Stove Companies left.
Please tell me, how good was that for our economy? Those were mom and pop business like us that could not adapt and thought they had to go out of business because they did not understand the law that applied to them.

Let me first say that for a freeman to remain free, he must first understand his freedom and how it applies to him, his family, and his business, farm, shop, or trade which affects his ability to enjoy this core value that makes you free.
I don't have the time or space here to teach this foundation of our freedom so I have given you what your forefathers stated when they threw off Tyranny and stepped into Liberty under God.
Your rights are God ordained, not government ordained, furthermore we are the government, "We The People". Yet many folks gladly slip the shackles or regulations around their necks without first understanding the consequences. Many of our freedoms have been willingly handed over and never will be returned, a good example is the Patriot Act.....

According to what I read in our Bill of Rights and Constitution we all have certain rights which basically say your secure in the right of your person place and property including your papers.
The most powerful person inside your home is you, as long as you do not physically harm someone else, you can stand on your head all day sucking on a Tootsie Roll if that is what makes you happy.
Next in line is the local sheriff shoot the neighbors dog for killing your cat and he sorts things out so we don't end up with the Hatfields and McCoys kinda deal.
From there you have county government and then State, least of all is the Feds. Somehow we have twisted this around and now the Feds run everything out West.
The EPA is now coming after our water rights using the Tribes and the Federal Authority they have over them, to control all the water. Out here, that wont end well......

Let me finish with this, I love clean air, my wife has severe asthma and can't breath wood smoke. She is also chemically sensitive, but I don't see any decline in the amount of toxic chemicals we are being exposed too. Why is that?
It's in the water, the food and the air.......and getting worse. We now have deformed deer with tumors all over their bodies showing up in the remote woods in Montana......
I suspect that Monsanto, Dow, Johnson, Allied Chemicals and the thousands of other international companies who pay expensive lobbyist to pervert our government, might play a role in that?
Having to move to places where my wife won't be sick from Chemical Exposure is getting harder and harder to do.

    UL is another matter.
UL started with nothing but electrical.
It was a way to make those appliances safer so fewer folks would sit in the bathtub, watching TV and get electrocuted when they reached up to flip the dial in the days before remotes......

From there it snowballed and today the American public thinks they can't wipe their rear end without UL listed toilet paper.
UL is nothing more than a lab that makes specs so other labs can test to it. It is a standard for many appliances so they have guidelines for installation, trying to "Idiot Proof".
More than anything it is a Liability Layer between manufactures and the end customer and makes suing harder for a defective product that has a UL listing, ask any attorney how that works.
Insurance companies like UL listed stuff for that reason and it cuts down on their liability exposure by spreading it out to the manufacture who had to carry Liability insurance based on the UL Listing and could not get it otherwise, in the US.
In Canada same game only it is ULC. It is a clever monopoly, but there are ways around. Mostly it is what questions you ask and what info you provide.

Everyday in the real world in engineering, architecture, and construction decisions are made that affect the safety of an installation.
The folks that make those calls are the tradesmen, engineers and architects that are doing the construction project. UL is not a factor in commercial installations as in most cases it does not apply.
So how do we manage to build these projects? We use a code book put out by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and we apply it wherever we can.
It consist of simple engineering formulas to provide proper clearances to combustibles.

Install your stove and chimney according to NFPA 211 and call in the Fire Marshall and Building Inspector when your done.
Once they sign off the insurance company has to insure you unless they have a "no solid fuel appliance policy", which you either get a Rider or another insurance company.
If you follow all the NFPA Specs I have never had one of our installations not pass.
Of course the local building inspector or County in which you live could be another story.

A long time ago I voted with my feet and left Michigan where I had a good business, but the regulations were driving me crazy.
Today I live in Montana, we have no Building Inspectors where I live, no Sales Tax and no Speed Limits until recently. You might see one cop all day.
We all get along great and have the lowest crime rates in the world.
Why, were all armed to the teeth and can shoot the eye out of an Elk at a 1/4 mile.
    Liberty, is a good thing.

Available EPA/UL Listed Wood Cook Stoves....
Bottomline is that most of the products we offer have a UL Listing and an EPA Certification because of the reasons Scotty mentioned.

Omni Labs in Portland is willing to UL List the La Nordicas but wants to be able to periodically check the manufacturing facility to make sure they are not cutting any corners or have made changes without updating the UL listing.
This has been the Hic Up with the UL Process so far and the Italians don't want to comply, we believe because they don't understand the need.
We are still working through this process. We believe once we begin selling enough they will allow the Omini inspections.

As far as EPA UL Listed Wood Cookstoves the selection is still pretty limited, although I have been working to increase this selection over the years.

    http://woodstoves.net/j.a.roby/mystere-cook-stove.htm

For a long time we had nothing, talking to Wolfgang owner of Napoleon Fireplace, he was able to give us two stoves, but nothing with an oven.
The oven and EPA emissions is a problem because of the Secondary Brun Process all EPA stoves employee. This is actually "Gasification" and is why the EPA stoves burn so much cleaner.
Almost all Wood Cookstoves with ovens pull the smoke down, around and under the oven and up the chimney. Only the Kitchen Queen Cookstove pulls the smoke sideways, under, then up and around the oven.

This is why we don't have EPA cookstoves with ovens on the side.
The only one out there I offer currently is this guy. http://woodstoves.net/cookstoves/cuisiniere-cookstove.htm
It is a great heating stove, but not so much for cooking and baking as the smoke does not move around the oven.
It is basically an EPA firebox installed in a sheet metal frame that looks like a cookstove.
The oven does not get hot enough or bake even enough to use daily for that purpose, according to our clients who have purchased them.

This was the stove I had high hopes for.

Get out of my living room!!

1st, there is nothing wrong with killing a cat! I hate those dang things! They are worse than rats! Taste good too at the local Chinese joint! We need this icon fixed, it should be a cat not a round! :axe: :D

2nd, what was wrong with the Hatfields and McCoys? That is EXACTLY how we should "sort thngs out"!! :D

That's too bad! It could be a perfect place if it wasn't for that one cop! :D

You aught to go down to the local bank, and fix that low crime rate problem! Nothing a presidential disguise and a little note slipped to the bank teller couldn't fix!! :D

Yum, love me some Purdy Elk steaks! :grizz:

    Havin fun yet?

As were on the La Nordica line and talking about wood cookstoves, let me throw a few more onto the table.
When someone comes to me and asks me what is the best hand gun for me? I like to take them out to the range and spread out a dozen or so on a table and say, "fire away".....
When they start actually hitting the target, we zero in on that model and fine tune the selection. Picking out a good wood cookstove can kinda be just like that.
That is why we have so many wood cookstoves. If its not there, there is a reason.

Here is the La Nordica Rosa XXL which is another larger model we also added to the line up for the North America market. Price is a reasonable $2600 delivered to most places in USA.

    Depth 26.3"

Woody Chain I'll send you a PM tonight or tomorrow to discuss with you. Wifey and I have our hearts set on the America......just gotta figure out if we can get it or not....

I like the Cuisiniere for the firebox, I really wish there was a way I could modify that to heat the oven on three sides. ...but I ain't modifying a $4k stove.......
