Just got home from work. Been missing camping sitting at the fire. It is lightly snowing, 27º and my wife is gone. Seems completely reasonable to have a fire. Best weather we have had in a few weeks, and mama bear isn't home to tell me I am nuts. It feels so good kickin back and feelin the warm
Nice. When it's that cold though, I need a fire in front of me and behind me, or half of me gets cold
We did a camp out at Scout camp on Friday night......it was near 0° out (but we were in a nice cabin with the woodstove). We cooked breakfast on the firepit on Saturday morning and processed 5 standing dead oaks for the annual Klondike Derby in two weeks.......man there's nothing like a hot breakfast over a campfire on an icy cold morning!! Taters and eggs, local made bacon, maple cured sausage.....does it get any better? Hungry yet??
If I'm working outside in the cold a lot of times I'll start a fire to keep me company and warm my hands by. I do miss camping though. Back in my scouting days almost all of our camp outs were in the late fall and winter. I can remember several weekends when we'd have to thaw our water each morning.
Ma just got home. Like clockwork... "what is wrong with you, you are so weird, do you not realize it is cold out?" I just smirked and said I didn't force you out there. Then came the eye roll. It is always a perk to the day when I get one of those.
I miss it too. We were supposed to go to our camp last weekend but my son had a pretty bad cold. Going to try in two weeks. Nothing like a weekend in the woods.
