The ground is still soaking wet around here. :hair: I was able to get in a lot of hand splitting today :axe:, along with some stacking. I believe this small stack to be some type of cherry. Stacked it next to some good looking white oak!

Also found my first stack to fall over.. :headbang: Yay for me! I was trying that tool less cinder block rack thing.. and the rain just made the ground too soft. You can see it behind the big pile of Poplar I split today. It was a rack of white oak.

Yes, we have had quite a bit. Its amplified big time near my splitting area because that field and property behind mine drains through there. I need to get to work fixing that. We've only been here just over a year now. Just haven't had a chance to dig some trenches. I always seem to find something else to do .. haha.. but during a downpour my yard will become a lake. I really need some fancy equipment like some of our members have to dig me a ditch.

Does kind of look like cherry. I've had a stack fall over a time or two, definitely no fun :headbang:

Not sure that is cherry. It looks a bit too dark but don't know for sure what it is.

Yes I would say that is cherry, some is real red and dark, some is not. Also depends on if it was real green or partially dead. I've probably cut more cherry than any other wood. Disclaimer: I could still be wrong.

Don't have any pics of bark and grain to show. Maybe I can get to it later this week.i should have thought to take some. This tree was a blow down and half dead. There was some rot in the middle of the tree also.

Now I'm even more convinced it's cherry.

No.. Thank god bc I get it just by looking at it. I think it's called a trumpet creeper vine.. I am slowly making a dent in them since we moved here. This place was neglected for a long time.

I used to stack between trees like that but the wind would wiggle the trees just enough to eventually knock the piles over.
You'd think the wiggling would lock it all together tighter but didn't work for me. I learned to stack faster.

This is my first year stacking in between them. I have heard the same, but I am stubborn and have to learn the hard way sometimes. haha As I have stacked I've taken a sledge hammer and banged them down from the top. Maybe I am wasting my time, but it feels like I am making them a little tighter. We will see how it holds up. I will probably hit them down from the top every month or so.
