We are taking up yoke hunting as well. I've shot a few deer hunting. They need to go. Nasty critters. I lost a big doe to yotes 3 years ago.

Coyotes don't get a pass on my place while deer hunting. Shoot on sight is my motto. But then again they can and have taken a new born calf as well. I shot 5 last year by just having a gun handy, that is probably the nicest thing about the AR platform. They can be compact, light, accurate, and easy to load and unload.

Coyotes are getting to be a problem on my 10 acres.
Covenants prevent me from hunting but I can trap.
I have never trapped anything so I need some advice.....

Yep...best time to shoot 'em is whenever you see 'em! I don't worry about the deer hunt at that moment, just the gentle squeeze.

I have a Fox Pro caller and have had very good luck with it . We don't get any 300 yard shots here most are 100 or under as the farms are all gone or overgrown. I get most of my shots while bow hunting deer. This one came in following a small skipper.

I stopped him at 30 yards with a mouse squeak by cupping my hand and making a kissing noise. As you can see the bow does a good job.

If I am out after coyote the 12 ga. and the 17 rim come along. I can not count the number I have taken with the 17 at 20-100 yards. I have never taken one on the run as to me the best and fun part is getting them to come in close. Most are shot trying to sneak in on the call or a turkey decoy.

I don't know if you saw my post in the end of deer season post but we hunt a lot over bait for coyote here. I use a deer carcass frozen solid with a cable in it and attached to a tree. You can get scraps from your local butcher put them in a trash can with some water and a cable or chain and freeze it. Dump it out and you have a Popsicle for coyote that they will chew on for days if you let them :)
