I had an aftermarket intake boot slide off the the cylinder flange and the clamp
only made 2 cuts and shut off and upon recranking it was acting all erractic and I knew it had an air leak! Shut it down and about a 10 to 15 minute fix. Oem intakes for me

I've used two of the Hutzl 038 tanks so far. Both fit well and had no problems. I've used a lot of aftermarket seals and had no problems with any of them. I got a 038 mag top end from HLS and the jug was great, nice bevel on the ports, plating looked good. The piston however, was junk. Pin holes were bored crooked and the circlip grooves weren't machined properly. I'm leery of aftermarket pistons anyway, except Meteor. That being said, I have a 52mm 038 piston, and an 026 piston here that I paid 7 or 8 dollars each for from Hutzl, and they look fine. I'm just waiting to find project saws for test beds.

Had no trouble with A/M fuel filters, the air filters seem to be hit and miss. Fuel and impulse lines are working fine so far. I've used a couple of chinese ignition coils and had good luck. One has been on an 026 for around three years.

The biggest problem with the aftermarket stuff seems to be that the quality control isn't there.

This is the issue I'm trying to explore with this thread. Some parts from some brands are junk, others are as good as OEM, sometimes better. This is also why it is important to use brand names/sources when posting your experiences here.

Guys like me would love to use AM parts in our repair businesses but am I willing to stake my reputation on the quality of the parts? I've used some AM stuff on customer saws with mixed results. I never want to have a PO'd customer tho because a cheapo AM fuel/air filter failed or a fuel line keeps collapsing. Not worth the couple bucks saved. The handful of saws I have built with aftermarket top ends now have been good runners. Even if the performance is slightly off OEM, the owners are just happy to have a good running saw repaired for reasonable $$.

I think this is a very informative thread.

Sticky maybe? A lot of experience out there could add and help others

    Got an update:
The 460 is running great with AM bearings, intake boot, Meteor piston, and seals. I have probably 15-20 tanks through it with no major issues as of yet. Again, longevity is the key with these parts so I'll update periodically. Comp w/ base gasket was 165lbs, probably closer to 170 now... OEM jug, not d-shaped (although I have a scored one I may put on eventually).

I decided to try the cheap Huztl 390 kit on an 029Super. I was pleasantly surprised with the kit's quality. It brought life back to a saw with a bad clutch side bearing and a cheap Laser brand p/c. I've put about 10 tanks through it. The rings were absolute junk so I went with caber. I also wanted to try a cheap china carb for this series... worked great!

I'll soon be building a MS440/460 hybrid using a bunch of AM parts.....including the crankcase.

I do them just a little different.

I'm gonna do a 440 build thread just for you though.

I've got one I need to do right now.

I've played with 661s for about a week now though.

Pretty sure I have them figured out now though. :)

Just got a Hyway chain adjuster for the 046. It was junk. Went in super tight, was super tight adjusting. I dabbed some grease on everything before install and then it locked up when I tried to screw it back out to tighten the chain up when installing the bar. Looking at it vs the old oem and parts are not the same size. the worm gear is longer, sloppy stamping on the part with the stud. Waste of $8.

Got a set of Hyway clutch springs for the 066. They seem to be ok although they don't seem to be as consistent as oem. One is looser than the other two and there is a larger gap between clutch sections. They have solved the chain spinning at proper idle issue. I wonder if they will last.

Did u get the adjuster off ebay? The seller should refund you as ebay protects you from junk purchases.

I have an email into the supplier, but it is Sat. after all.

I am just reporting my experience with some after market parts which was the point of this thread.

20150214_080202.jpg Vostore in California sells these on ebay. They were nice and wanted pics and obviously had no clue it was bad as it was sealed in shrink from the factory. Ive used hultz cylinders which were leaps ahead of this but the guys at Vostore said they would make it right but now ill be a week behind on a job
