Put a tank through the 2166 and the 044 today cutting a 30" elm trunk. Its been dead for years and laying at my wifes rental property.

It was like cutting a rock. I had to stop and file the brand new chains half way through the tanks!

My splitter bogged, barfed and yelled through the whole process too.

Really wasn't much fun, so all I managed was a final product picture.

Saws ran great and I can see why the 044's a legend in the woods.

I burn a lot of smaller dead elm. It dulls my chain too, but my sharpening skills need honing. A new chain, or a pro sharpening job is needed. I won't even try to hand split it. Hydro power only for that.

Nice pile though, reminds me I need to cut some before I start my new job 2 Mondays from now.

I didn't do a very good job on the chains, just enough to get by. This was a twisted grained yard tree and my splitter really struggled.

    Where's the new job?

An aerospace company in Milwaukee. I was burnt out where I was previously, and it was a horribly run company with serious operational and sales issues. As a Buyer, those are bad things to deal with.

Thanks! I'm pretty stoked about it. They do a lot of LED lighting (interior and exterior marker lights )for corporate jets. 95% is US sourced.

It gets my career back on track. Sorry for the threadjack HittinSteel!

I'm guessing the elm is hard on chain for the same reason it leaves clinkers in my stove.
