Watching the Detroit news tonight, they had a story about some Einstein who scaled a 8' security fence and then climbed a 1000ft. radio tower. Wantin to a 'base jumping" hero, off he jumped. Problem is the chute didn't open. Good news is the snow softened the "SPLAT"........................and they walk amongst us. problem is that they also breed.
Sounds sort of like an old commercial where they would spray a huge heap of shaving cream and ask if that would stop someone. So naturally they show someone jumping into it. I expect the snow did about as much good as that shaving cream. I think part of the problem is coming from all the social media. People will go to extremes to get a picture of themselves doing something crazy.
BASE Jumper Dies After Failed TV Tower Leap Chute did not deploy Josh Sheppard, 31, of Detroit, was killed after his chute failed to deploy during a BASE jump from a 1,000-foot TV tower in southern Michigan on Wednesday evening, according to the AP. Sheppard was an experienced BASE jumper and skydiving instructor, having completed more than 3,000 jumps, according to the New York Post. He was alone, did not have permission to be on the tower, and had not told anyone of his plan to jump. His death, while presumed to be an accident, is under investigation by Michigan State Police.
I have a nephew that packs chutes. I would never jump out of or off of anything with a chute he packed. Or any other person now that I'm thinking about it. Knowing him all he's life I often wonder what the qualifications are for that job.
I can't say the same. But jumping from a plane that isn't in the process of crashing isn't something I'd ever do. But then there's that smiley. What have you done gas? And was it funny?
