Picked up a Record Player Today

Who loves some classic vinyl? I was holding out for an old cabinet style record play with the big speakers in it but today I couldn't pass up a "6-in-1 Nostalgic Entertainment Center!" The system is plays CD and cassettes (both features I will never use), FM radio, all three record sizes, has line input and output, and can connect to my phone and ipad via bluetooth. The blue tooth feature will get used about as much as the record player. It has a pretty decent sound, I'm rocking out to Brian May right now-- "Star Fleet, Star Fleet." He has some young guy playing guitar with his on this album, goes by the name of Van Halen. He might be able to make a career of it some day.

 

Star Fleet is a great album. Lots of good musicians on that one. As I recall the other two songs on it are pretty good also.

Yes, "Let Me Out" is a great track and it's a real head-scratcher why that track (and lots of other good ones recorded by Roger and Freddie) never made it onto the otherwise mediocre "The Works" album.

I don't have any classic vinyl, but I got some mid to late 90's punk on vinyl somewhere round here still I think.

 

Adam, I have one of those units. I had a big unit that was up in the garage. The kids cleaned out the garage and tossed the stereo out! But they left all my records. I also inherited my parents records. I have purchased a player that connects to the computer and transfers the music to the computer where it can be used in any format, or shared on a CD. We had an old 33 that my parents played every Christmas. I copied it and sent the CDs out to my brothers. Brought them to tears.

Except for maybe a dozen that I sold or traded in high school to early 20's I still have every single LP from age 12 onwards in my collection,around 325 if memory serves.And the same high quality Pioneer turntable bought my senior year.Its the last original piece of that component system.

The receiver finally died in the early 90's,replaced it,bought a CD player around then,it was toast & replaced a couple years later.In the mid 90's I tossed out the original walnut grained decal -covered particle board speaker cabinets & built a set of 4 replacements -all new subwoofers,tweeters,wiring installed in solid 3/4" Black Cherry & Hard Maple cabinets.

Nothing beats the sound of vinyl on a good system.I'll listen to them every few months.


Parents still have their massive mid 60's Magnavox Walnut console stereo,last I heard the turntable needs a new belt but otherwise is fine.AM/FM radio works great,those dual speakers are awesome.

 

Give us the highlights of that collection, who ya got?

 

That's just the 1 shelf,lower shelf is almost half full.Boxes of various old tools/duplicates sitting on the floor obscuring most of the LP's .

Oh everything from AC/DC,Beatles,Hendrix,Zeppelin,Who,Stones,Eric Clapton,Queen,Pink Floyd,ZZ Top,Rush,Stevie Ray Vaughan,Johnny Winter,some vintage Johnny Cash,Willie/Waylon,Elvis,even some classical/opera/other stuff parents gave me & what I found at a flea market,garage sale or two.

Funny thing is last new LP I bought was in 1990,then started buying CD's.

After about a decade I would start in again grabbing the odd LP at different places.Its not a big thing with me now,old Mac's & still the occasional antique tool takes up most of my collecting time/energy,but if I'm out somewhere I'll still flip through any old LP's just in case something interesting pops up.
