Well, I've been pondering getting a mill and it seems I have fallen into the one from the classifieds.

I'm so new to milling I don't even know what questions to ask.

It'll ride on my 066 with 28" bar.

I'd like a list of other items I will need to get started ie chain type, auxiliary oiler or not, etc. Most wood will be 20" or under. Im not really looking to turn out millions of bf. I don't have a storage area for it. Most wood on my place is maple, beech, ash...little to no oak and hickory.

I have no tractor or fel to skid or lift with.

Any links to a getting started guide etc would be great.

Mod your oiler and go with it. 28" isn't enough to need an aux oiler for a 066. Get you something to make a first cut level. Straight ladder, slabbing bracket frame or copy, unistrut, or 2x8. Put the log on a slope every chance you get. Make it a comfortable height so your back will appreciate it. I put them up waist high on the low end when possible. I use whatever chain I have on the bar I need to reach through the log. I got the best finish from square filed stuff.

What lumber do you need for what projects?
Milling to store lumber is for lumber dealers.
Only mill what you need to mill for the customers specs. You could be your own customer so you would mill what you need. But it depends on what your needs are because it takes allot of lumber to break even with the cost of mill v.s. hiring a mill .

right now, all I need is lumber to build an outhouse at my camper. The want category includes an outdoor bar top, deer skinning poles, wood shed, And possibly a deer blind.

It's more for fun for me but I'm sure once my neighbors see it happen, they will all have want lists too. Then maybe I can make some $ or get some different species out of it.
