That's a good idea Gas, helping the veterans is a great thing. I am not a veteran myself but am very thankful for them.
Nebraska/ Iowa. I am in! All my saws are stock ( as of today!) so they might be good for comparison. Would enjoy meeting you folks. Anxious to see & hear some of your modified saws.
Remember that Field Day of the Past is the 3rd weekend in September and the Western KY GTG is the following weekend. If you did it the 2nd weekend in September there is a chance I could make it.
I am game to travel. I didn't mind having one here at my place and Swags was a great time But because of my job, I do need notice. Feb 1st I have to turn in my vacation for the year. I can still schedule time after that, but I am not guaranteed to get it.
I was thinking the third weekend in Sept. but the second weekend would also be fine with me. What do you think DexterDay ? I know you said you would like to come.
Always a large GTG in Chealsea, IA at the Hoskey farm. In April... AS, SH, and FHC members attend it. Homelite410 is a big part of that event.
If people are really interested in doing it in Iowa i will make some phone calls to local campgrounds and see if we can make it happen. There is one in particular i have in mind.
My vacation is due in at the end of the week. I would like to have a date and a location set up. The clock is ticking. Also, if anyone knows the dates of other GTG's, please post them up. I believe Homelite410 has one on April 25th in Chelsea Iowa
cwn877 mentioned a possible GTG here at his place. We'll have to get it figured out, though. I'd gladly have one at my place but I just don't have the space to support it. I could possibly ask my neighbors if we can use the farm but I'd need a definite head count ahead of time. It'd be a camp out event if we did either Chris' s or my place though.... If we do one here it would have to be in summer.....
I would love to come out to Chris' or your place. Every summer I say I am when I am at our Cabin. Never transpires.. I can take a vacation day whenever, but it's not guaranteed. Before Feb 1st and I will know 100% that I got it.
Lol we could probably make room for you too dex. If there is interest on one at my place let me know shouldn't be too hard to find space.
I am still following this thread but am a bit confused are we discussing two separate GTG's or discussing having one up in Iowa?
I would consider having one in Central Indiana this year, but I would need to know what all is "required" as far as # of logs for races, size of said logs, etc. before I am positive I can be a good host. Anyone who has hosted one, chime in here. I have 5 acres of woods at my "deer camp" with a 30 amp circuit, old RV, 12x16 mini barn with 12' workbench for jackin' with saws, and generator for any electric needs, but my only skidding equipment is a small 4x4 atv unless my neighbor wants to help with his old 8n. Also, no way to get heavy logs off the ground. My bathroom facilities will consist of an outhouse to be constructed this spring so at least it will be new and clean I've got a few grills there so all cooking will be on a fire or grill. My location is about 20 minutes off of I-70. I have room for a few tents, and there is a state park within 10 minutes of me for anyone with campers that want full hookups, or any camper that wants all the comforts of a normal state park....shower, bathhouse, etc. Anyone who wants to boondock, can do it at the state park, or there are primitive campgrounds 10 minutes away also that are much more private. (little 20- 30 spot campgrounds with an outhouse tucked inside state forestry. $5/night, honor system, no DNR, no security, you drive thru 2 creeks to get there which after a rain, can get 12-20" deep. There are also a couple motels (super 8 etc...no embassy suites LOL)
Homelite410 is having one on April 25th. But that is through AS, but all are welcome. There is nothing scheduled here. The longer the lead, the better the turn out. If we wait till the last minute, people will make other plans (vacation, spring cleaning, etc).
