How did you choose your ACA health plan?

You served our country....you deserve it..

It's good you are asking this question. Let me tell you all a little story.

A local dentist had a mother bring her son in to be seen. She told them that now that she has insurance, she wants her son to have the works. After everything is said and done, our friends wife that handles the billing submits the bill to be reimbursed. It's declined. She submitted again, and it was declined again. Finally she starts making calls to determine why it's being declined. She went through several different levels at the ACA call center before she arrived at the final person. They informed her that this woman had signed up for a plan with a 10,000 deductible. The mother was now on the hook for the total bill. That is crazy. Yes the premiums for this plan are probably very good if you don't ever use the plan.


My cousin's daughter works for a local non-profit that helps educate people when signing up through our state exchange. There is a great deal of misinformation out there, and unless they call or go into their office, many will signup on line and make major mistakes. She has seen examples like the one above.

It's currently the law of the land, and for now we must live with it. I suggest you check to see if your state has a hotline or a local place for you to go in and get information on the plans offered.

These voluntary share types of plans are getting a lot of airtime on liberty based podcast I listen to daily. Tom Woods had a guy on a few months ago talking about how these plans are a legal way to opt out of ACA. I've never used one though so I can't give any feedback but I do find it interesting.

Never in the history of health insurance even being available... has there been this much turmoil caused by politics.

 

I had a mortgage company take money out of my account (had auto-pay set up through their website) a week and a half after we sold the house and closed the mortgage. There's no intelligent life in these places.

 

It all boils down to complacency. The majority of people are complacent and adapt or try to adapt to what is!

Another point that might be of interest or at least common knowledge. Insurance companies are out there to make money and absolutely hate to pay anything out. Want proof! Look at the multi million dollar complexes they build. Then look at how much the executives get paid. Just where do you think all that money comes from? Think excessively large deductibles and premiums. This "affordable" health care is no exception. It only feeds the already bloated insurance companies.

This of course is just my opinion and most times doesn't count for much.

We'd be in a LOT better shape if medical insurance never existed. It wasn't that long ago that most people paid out of pocket, and oddly enough healthcare costs were much more affordable. Every time you have a middle man to make a service "cheap" somehow the costs of that service explode. It's the same with college costs, as soon as kids could get cheap loans for college, suddenly colleges started charging more.

 

7-8 years ago there was a big stink raised when it came to the public's attention that the CEO of Pa Blue Cross/Blue Shield was pulling a salary of something like $400,000/yr. She quietly resigned a few months later.

University president's are the same way. A local private university recently bought a large track of land and built a mansion for the president. It looks like it came right out of the south during the height of the cotton industry in the 1800's. The driveway takes a long curve up to the house and runs between the house and the tall columns that are typical of that era of Southern architecture. Wouldn't want the president to get wet now would we?

PSU(Penn State University) has their own helicopter for the president to use supposedly because he has to go to Harrisburg often. It's a 2 hour drive for cryin out loud. But I guess being shuttled in the PSU limo is beneath him.



And the kids wonder why it costs so much to go to school.

 

Hopefully, competition across state lines will help. Eventually. Arrrrrrrrrrgh... ... I'm with ya WW...
