Gas is running about $2.35-$2.45 here. I guess you might say, that we have the luxury of gas not being a large enough % of yearly expenditures that I base my driving decisions on what the going price is.... that is to say that we drive how much we drive regardless. We are probably below average in the mileage we put on, but drive thirsty vehicles. I put about 8k miles a year on the truck, mostly commuting and some weekend hauling locally. Wife puts about 10-12k a year on her SUV, driving the kids around and using it for most family drives. Both vehicles average around 18mpg. The net of these lower prices is I'm keeping about $100 a month more in my pocket, which is nice.... and helps to take some of the sting away from migrating from a 32mpg car to an 18mpg truck for my commute.
I have not changed the way I drive. Gas is around $2.29 and diesel sround $2.79. I don't drive a lot of extra places though never really did.
I paid $3.49 for diesel yesterday. Sure would be nice to see it drop some more as long as the DOW doesn't follow it. I'm tired of watching my 401K shrink every time the price of crude drops.
I guess there is a premium associated with location.. If I could get those kind of savings, I'd be bringing a couple 55 gallon drums with me every time I went to the big city.... Interesting that in Michigan the lowest prices are in and around Detroit As are the highest prices!! Of course sometimes the price reports are incorrect..
And that's a good thing.... I usually stock up with a couple of extra 5 gallon diesel cans.. Now I have 10 gallons in the garage for which I paid $3.05 and I can get diesel for $0.30 a gallon less... Can't win!!
Today diesel was $2.75 and off road $2.32 sure a big drop from a couple months ago when we were at $3.97 really helps. Taking the 200 gal slip tank in tomorrow and fill with off road. 200 gals for under $500 haven't seen that for a few years.
I drive about 30,000 miles a year. Mostly for work, but I do drive to northern MI a couple times a month in the summer. Gas costs what it costs. I like it when it's cheap, but I won't lock myself in the house when gas gets more expensive. It helps that my DD gets over 40 MPG.
