If I were looking for a new 50cc saw in that price range, it'd be a 545 hands down. :)

sounds nice, Clint! I am wondering what you did with the 23 seconds you saved, cutting with the 7900? :)

I guess if time is so important that seconds matter then get a bigger saw.

Every 3 cuts is a minute. 50-60 cuts for a load of would might knock off 15 minutes. That's 15 minutes more to drink beer. Real important time savings.

Its also about enjoying yourself. I enjoy running a ported 79cc beast so much more than a stock wimpy 50cc children's saw.
    :bug:

In all seriousness, I feel that a 50cc saw is best suited to small wood, 12" and under.

yes it is, about enjoying yourself!

A few years ago I cut all my firewood with a 40cc saw 18" bar. Did I get it done, yes, was it fun, no, not really!

I bucked up everything from 8" all the way up to 28" wood with it, was in the cut for what felt like ALL DAY, then I stepped up to a 60cc saw with a 20" bar and was like holy chit, so this is what it is like, then I went to a 70cc saw, and thought why didn't I do this 5 years ago, this is FUN now! Now I have a 90cc saw, oh what progress I've made :) :)

I bet ya if I picked up that 40cc saw today to cut with I set it down and go grab an axe, or a nice sharp bow saw! :)

I enjoy ported 45-60cc saws much more than larger saws. We're all different. :)

Yeah I get bored with a 20 second cut in 20" of wood. In all honesty I like working with stuff 3' plus. 4 or 5 rounds is a load.

The Timberwolf should work fine for your friend. I don't see how you best it with its weight power price & quality

My first saw was a little craftsman and I cut down some BIG willows with it. Then I ran an ms290 for a long time. With the 290 and a 20" bar I cut oak up to 40". Was it a little slow? Yes, and a bit of a pain cutting from both sides but I got it done. And I also didn't know what it was like at the time to have a 70cc + saw or a ported saw. Now looking back I don't know how I cut over 20 cord with that saw know how much faster I'm an cut with my 460. And my 460 is def nit the fastest saw out there but it muscles through everything I've thrown at it.

Baby steps one at a time gets it done, and like Ray said. He's cut a lot with an 023 and has had it for years.

My BIL has a 455 Rancher and cuts all of his wood up in NH and loves the saw.. If I were a professional I'd think differently and I am too old for that lol.. I feel the value is good if the saw gets the job done just as a splitter doesn't need to be a speed demon unless I process huge amounts of firewood.. If I were to buy a saw right now that could "do it all" I'd be giving the Echo CS590 a long hard look and would probably buy it.. Just a good overall value that's more than enough for the average wood burner.. I am really looking forward to getting my 023 back to see what it's like!

My vote goes to the 545/2252. My 2253 has been a pleasure to run (besides the little bog off idle).

My buddy and I are cutting tops from a logged out woods so I'm using my 50's more and more as of late. Heck, I just enjoy running them and as a plus, they don't get heavy after a few hours like a 70 can. Once I hit 16" or so, I'll whip out the 440 and let er eat, but the ported 260 loves to have the bar buried if it's required.

You have to admit, the Jred is much sexier than the Husky. Here's our fleet of the day from a couple weeks ago. I built the 024S into an 026 for him - this was it's first outing.

This is my exact experience with the 2252. Awesome in wood 14" and under but what's up with that hesitation? Dawgs in, sharp chain and it can keep up with some lean on it. Good looking bar on that saw.

There is a hidden L screw that needs a 1/4 turns out to fix that.

I took the saw over to Xskiers place last weekend. He got his 550 to kick the bog and it was running flawlessly. So I did what he did, stretched the needle valve spring from 3/8" to 1/2" resting and added a muffler mod. I've only made a couple cuts to test the saw at his place since the tweak. From those few cuts, it's much better but I don't think it's totally solved yet. I'm going out to the woods this Sunday to give it a good running, I'll report how it goes.

I'm going to give that a try if the tweak above doesn't work. Does anyone have a pic of where this is on the carb? It's under some type of plug right?

EDIT: Sorry for the thread hijack here. Found one of Brads videos on youtube that show the screw.
