How did you choose your ACA health plan?

Searching the "marketplace" for a new plan for lil one and husband. Their current plan is now over $1200 per month premium ONLY.

My first impression is to go for a "gold" or "platinum" plan (lower deductibles), not sure if that the best fit.

I DO know that the lil one though healthy, has frequent visits between checkups, ear infections, etc. Husband rarely goes to the doctor. Only two companies to choose from, her doctor accepts both.

Whatever we get I think I will open a new savings account for medical expenses only.

    Thanks for any input :)

Ouch! That would be difficult to take with those premiums.

Fortunately my family has very decent health insurance through our employer. But just for laughs I went onto the healthcar.gov site to see what we would qualify for if we did not have it through an employer. The prices are beyond ridiculous. The Bronze level plans for a family of four in my area start at around 700-800 a month for the premium and come with deductibles of 8K-15K. Since my wife and AI make over 90K combined we would not qualify for any subsidies either.

All across the nation, middle class individuals and families are suffering via the higher premiums their employee based plans are experiencing. the fines for not having insurance are going to start ramping up this year as well, further hurting people.

Obamacare is nothing but a big screwjob for the middle class. Anyone that had anything to do with foisting this upon the American people should be forced to burn in hell for eternity.

That probably isn't too bad Wildwest... my employer plan for a family of 4 costs me close to $500 a month out of my paycheck just for my share (and they tell us its only like 25% of what the plan actually costs the company)... and my copay's are a lot higher - $25 for primary care, $50 for specialists, $30-60 for prescriptions. I forget the deductible but it was something like a couple grand.

It is too bad they couldnt have come up with a plan to actually force more employers to offer insurance or *gasp* acutally do something about what doctors and hospitals charge or *gasp* *gasp* maybe look at what the entire rest of the civilized world does and consider single payer options. But nope, any of that would mean one of the two parties would have to say uncle and actually compromise..

Yes, both of us worked for large corporations for most our lives with kick butt health benefits, so this blows my mind.

Who is they? The government? The sooner that we all realize that big government and big business are in bed together and don't give a damm about us or our families the better off we'll be. It sucks but it's the world we live in.

I have tricare and now medicare. We pay about $208 a month. No deductables. I never see a bill. Only some co pays for some meds. Most meds cost $0.00. I could have federal blue cross, but with tricare, it isn't needed. We feel very lucky to have this.

At tax time, this freight train is gonna awaken a sleeping giant... millions who had no idea the IRS is now in charge of the mandatory requirement that everyone have insurance, and if they don't, there goes a lot of refund checks...

Thinking a lot of young people are gonna be less than excited.

I'd like to think that Obamacare or some other event would actually awaken the majority of people and things would get better but if I'm being completely honest I don't see it happening.

It was only 70 years ago that a world war that killed 60 million people ended. I don't understand why so many assume that what is now will always be. I guess dealing with reality is just too scary for most people.

Better planning with what is with held from your checks could be someway. Best to plan on not oweing or getting a refund. IRS is not a shavings and loan institute. If you plan well and come within a limited amount, you don't get punished for underpaying. I know lots of people plan on a refund, but the same thing can be set up with a credit union.

When you plan so that you get a refund you're actually lending the government money. Money that they are making interest on. Better to keep it for yourself and make good use of it all year long as you get that extra money.

The federal government is the parasite and the American people are the host. The parasite usually isn't done eating away at the host until the host is dead.

While I agree with alot of the sentiments folks, there ARE different sides of the discussion here, each side with pros/cons. The moral of the story is we aren't going to talk politics and bash one facet or the other. I made a promise to our membership as a whole to do my best to curb the politics. So please help me keep the politics out so we don't have to shut it down......
