    Holy freaking cold Batman!

-5F when I left the house at 6:15. Wore my flannel lined jeans and snow boots to work (I work in a corporate office) and even sitting here in my office I'm freezing.. they need to turn up the heat.

In an interesting about face, the Mrs. who has never particularly liked the woodstove - she thinks the heat is too uneven vs. the central and is afraid to work it - got this months gas bill (apparently a doozy) today and called me up at work...

"Hon, maybe I should learn how to work the stove"

    :D

No new saw... bought myself too many toys lately.. But Ive got a work at home day tomorrow and a lot of locust stacked at the back door so Im gonna fire that bad boy up as soon as I get home tonight.

Forgot to add that last weekend I got all that new wood I split stacked with the help of my little guy... He just loves helping Dad. About 2/3 cord that should be good '16 shoulder wood. There is some pine and other softwoods in this batch so I split it bigger than usual.

In the last shot you can see how big that new house they are building next door is :( :( We didn't have that problem before the neighbors sold off the land as their old barn was setback a lot farther and there where more trees between lots that the developer took down. Not happy about this but not much I can do about it either :(

In other news.... with heli projects done, my evening hobby time has turned back to model airplane building again. Im now at the stage in my project of starting to build some of the cockpit details for the scale German biplane project. A lot of that involves metal work that on the full scale was cut and welded steel tube. In miniature we try to reproduce it in soldered brass.

First up are these front machine gun barrel mounts. not too bad.

But then the rear mounts that sit right in front of the pilot and hold the gun breeches, tachometer mount, backup throttle cable and some other parts are tough. This is really intricate, difficult work I'm not experience with thats really challenging me.

To give you an idea, this is what its supposed to end up being - the large green cross piece at the top

Above zero now. Just barely. The wind chill is still in the negative 10's. I need to bring some more hedge up to the house this evening...didn't bring near enough earlier in the week. Not looking forward to going outside to do that.

Going away for the weekend with the wife this weekend...then a quick road trip to NE next week. Going to be hard to do anything other than feed the stove and move wood around...no projects getting done for a while I'm afraid.

Gotta to love Hedge... I've been running though my Hedge at a pretty good clip too. But I've got almost a full cord sitting behind the house.

I have 8-10 cord of it out back...was hoping to oak would get me through the winter...and it probably would...but I like loading the stove right after dinner and knowing it won't need a reload until I get up for work the next morning. Oak won't do that.

Short lived victory ... 8 hours later I have it cranking now and again she is "freezing" because the stove room is 73 and the bedroom is only 69. high bills forgotten. Back to hating the stove again. cant win.

My littlest burnt his hand on the stove door this evening. Yes I have a gate around it, yes it was my fault he snuck behind me while I was loading it. Man I still feel bad.
