Put a load of Oak and Hedge in the little Hampton (and the old Buck) tonight. With the sub zero temps tonight, I am going to be warm and cozy.......I love wood heat.
Nice, Steve. Due for -4 tonight. Unfortunately, even the 30 can't fight that in this house....time for the DV heater.....again.
I hear ya Dave. Predicting -13 here tomorrow night. I will have both stoves cranking and probably still won't keep up.
Now that is not good Chief. Not sure how we'll do tonight but no problem last night. House only at 79 right now. If it drops, more logs go in the stove.
Hey Chief..............I'm probably just over 200+ miles North of you right on the "cheddar curtain". Twas -5*F at my place when I got up this morning and never got above 0*F today. It's -2*F as I type this right now and the "weather gods" are calling for close to -15*F up here with strong winds. We've still got most of Lake Michigan with open water as well as a couple of the rivers near me. With this cold and wind, + the open water = nasty, nasty, nasty conditions!!! If it weren't for the wind, my "little big stove" could handle it. But after recently gutting my master bathroom for a remodel, I see how poorly the walls of my house are insulated. Hell, some of the bays between the wall studs in my master bath didn't have ANY insulation in them at all!!!! House built in 1975!!!!
We're just about to go negative, house is 72, I did hear the furnace kick on earlier, I think my wife kicked it on but she's asleep so it won't be on the rest of the night.
Lots of threads like these. Good work Chief, sounds like your stove and house are working in harmony. Keep warm
Been below zero here for a few nights, ( "the norm" ) to be 31° tomorrow, 38°on Friday good coal burndown day
You guys make it seem balmy here. Plus 3f. tonight, but I can't tell any difference between that or subzero. Just reloaded the IS with black locust and white oak. Warm inside.....
We went down to about 2°F with pretty good winds overnight. Oil ended up kicking in at some point. Loaded up this morning with pin oak. Even the F250 this morning was growling. A couple more days and temps will warm up a bit. This is what we live for! Stay warm!
We were in the negative teens overnight, but that is the coldest expected for the next week, still some single-digit nights ahead in the next few days. I took mercy on the daughters and set the oil thermo on 65, and it ran a bunch in the early morning hours. The cows looked glad to see the sun this morning. They chose to sleep outdoors last night. Fortunately there wasn't much of a breeze.
Below zero here. Weather station reporting a -39 wind chill in one part of the state. Coldest temps on the map!
I've been pushing my little stove pretty hard lately with this cold snap. Four loads per day burning hot to keep the house mid 70's.
