Bought this dolmar 6400 late last winter or early spring and used it this season, I cut around 8 cords with it and am more than happy with the saw. Seems to have plenty of power with a 20" bar and LGX chain. Hasn't given me any problems except it seemed to start hard after warm up if I used the compression release 1 trip back to the saw shop and a c clip in between the compression real seas solvd that. The saw shop guy said it is common for the Dolmars and jonsred s to realease to much compression when you have the button in simple fix, starts one pull now after warm up. It always starts one the second pull cold. Choke it once pull it will fire and die push the choke in and pull it takes right of when cold. Great saw I think. image.jpg

Good snag. The dolmar 6400 is an underappreciated workhorse that should give you many years of good service.

They are great saws. I have a 7900 and it's my favorite firewood getter.

Before this I had a homelite power stroke 20 lol! I only used that for trail use mainly it wasn't much of a firewood saw but this 6400 is!

Sorry for the spelling this spell check on the I pad is terrible.
Anyhow that c clip keeps the saw from releasing so much compression that made all the difference. My saw guy seems to know his stuff he knew what to do right away when I told him about how it started hard (5-10 pulls) after warm up when I used the compression release. He told me he puts the c clip in all the new Dolmars and jonsred now before they go out the door.

I don't use the decomp on my 7900, even after a new piston ring and a Mastermind port job...

    Nice saw.

Compression releases aren't used very often for me either. I plug some saws even with 200lbs of compression.
