Has anyone ever heard of these? I went to HD today to pick up 5 FSU and they had a pallet of these as well, so I grabbed 4 FSU and 1 of these. While standing in the checkout line I got to reading the label. Made in Idaho. Wood type was Western Conifer. The ash is <.5% So I put 1 bag of FSU back and grabbed another of these. The UPC is 717122008714. I searched for it but couldn't come up with anything. Made by a company called Woodgrain Millwork Inc. of Fruitland, Idaho. DF? SPF? Could swear someone found these at an HD earlier this year as well. By the specs, they look like they could be a great score. Possibly similar to the PTL Softies? After you burn some, let us know what you think.
I'm thinking the same thing. I was told the pellets are on the long side, which I'm not fond of, but being softwood they should chew up pretty easily. It's too warm to burn these now, so I'm planning on doing it New Years day. Hopefully these turn out to be a quality pellet.
My second bag is in the hopper now. These are great smelling pellets. Light in color similar to La Cretes. I was told the pellets are on the long side but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. No crunching or grinding in the auger more than what I usually hear. Ash wise I was a little disappointed. The bag says less than .5%. That may be accurate, I'd say a little less than FSU but I'd rate these as a little hotter. Interesting watching these burn. They must be loaded with minerals. I'm getting all kinds of orange and green flames. Definitely a notch above FSU's, SC, and MWP. A real nice pellet but not as good as the AWF I burned last year and not as good as what I hoped when I say the color of the pellets. But it's 13 here and dropping and they're keeping up just fine.
I've changed my opinion on these after burning them last night. I bought 5 more bags yesterday because I thought they were a little better than FSU's. Now I think they're quite a bit better. Once it started getting colder and I cranked up the stove, these were really putting out some heat. It was 10 this AM when I got up, the house was 70 with just a medium sized fire in the burn pot. If I was burning FSU's last night I would have had the famous "wall of flame" Harman's are know for. I like these pellets.
After further review... I finished burning the last of my seven bags of these things and they aren't as good as originally thought. Every bag seemed to burn differently than the one before it. The only thing consistent about these are the great smell and all the colored flames. In fact, the bottom of my flame guide is multi-colored now. To me these produce way to much ash for a softwood pellet and the ash clumps together. I can see these causing a lot of clinkers. I wouldn't recommend buying these.
That would be me.. I gave them a box store "NOT" rating. A very light pellet, almost like a fistful of popcorn.
